Thread: What to craft to gain fast?
What I do is very simple, really - and it's cheap, too!
I found a spot with BOTH chemical and metal over 70% or near that( currently metal: 75% and chemical: 70% ) - then, there, place mineral harvestors ( currently only got one, the more the better obviously ) with the required wind power.
Then, mine both mineral and chemical at the EXACT same spot. That signifies you practically don't have ANY disadvantage to using powerups ( beside that the concentrations might be slightly better otherwise, obviously, but double the XP *is* worth it ) - the mineral harvestors are then useful in order to use most of your time on chemical harvesting ( which as Eng III can't do, so this trick actually works as soon as you're Eng III )
Then, during the sampling, you can do your crafting too. This technique greatly reduces delays IMO - you could obviously use chemical harvestors too, but then what are you going to use that sampling for? Frankly, you can't create powerups much faster than you sample chemicals...
Hope it helps someone! ![]()
Uttar
I did survey tools until eng2
Combat Staffs until 3
Then survey tools again until 4 (because of the 1 mineral thing)
Now I am doing axes.

I've been doing ANY upgrade. Usually melee because it's the first on the list. I use these because they use very low amounts of materials (6 mineral, 4 chemical) and reward with 40 GCEXP per.
The only downside thus far has been that I was stupid and tried to work up Domestic Arts before I worked up Engineering... so I don't have any automated harvesters =/
You know? I was thinking about this durring beta. I think they may have made a mistake when doing the crafting items.
I totally agree that crafting items should get you crafting experience and that is the only way to gain levels in your profession.
But with having to make 250 mouse droids in Beta to get to my next level of Droid engineer, well the market get's pretty well flooded. This goes for ANY item that you've discussed here. Make enough combat staffs and you'll be begging people to take them just to get them off your hands. I know I was destroying most of my output as a droid engineer. What kind of roll playing sence does that make?
"Well, I've finally got 500 mouse droids built. Guess it's time to destroy them all."
I think they should have made it take 10 times as long to craft any item... but given us 10 times the xp. That way the market wouldn't get flooded and we could actually SELL what we are making for a halfway decent price.
I think thats a very good point. As it is, I see people grinding out cdefs etc. and then giving them away. Talk about saturating the market with shoddy equipment. And the worst part is that most people can't tell the difference between quality and junk, so good items just won't sell because they have the same name as some terrible piece of equipment a buyer already has. I'm going with the 10 by 10 policy here, and saying that crafting should take alot more effort, but also give alot more rewards, including a boostto the eceonomy.
Devs! Where is our Economic Stimulus Package?!
You know, I'm not having any trouble at all making money as an artisan, and the difference seems to be that I'm in the mindset that I'm going to make various items that people seem to need instead of grinding out hundreds of useless prototypes I couldn't give away. I may not be advancing as fast as some other players, but:
1) I'm having more fun doing it instead of worrying about how long it's going to take to hit the next level.
2) I have spending money.
3) I get "free" XP from the useage of my USEFUL equipment that I'm creating.
4) In the process I'm developing a client base that will be seeking me out when I finally achieve the higher quality weapon schematics.
Instead of worrying about being the first to reach master whatever, how about kicking back and enjoying the game?
Just my $.02.

Agreed Dog. One of the big crafters in beta called this the "honest" crafter. People are just so used to grinding from DAOC and other crafting systems that they do what they know. I like to just log in for a few minutes at a time, make a couple items, throw them up on the bazaar at the lowest price, then logout. Log in, and voila, UXP!
The powercrafters will have a one month window or so, where they enjoy an exclusive market. Then what? After enduring mind numbing pain for a month of grinding, they'll then get bored after a week of selling the same thing and move on to another profession.
What's great about the bazaar and the other offline systems (harvesters, etc) is that you can play a crafter without grinding to advance. Vist your harvesters, craft a few new items, put it up on the bazaar, then go do some adventuring while you rack up UXP.
I'm what you refer to as an "honest" crafter. I think in the long run it pays off. I actually take the time to look at the minerals I mine to for example look for high heat resistance when I want to make a barrel and to use a crafting station to experiment. I'm not against "grinding" but you are right people that play the game that way will get bored with the profession. After all I look at this from a business perspective.
Here's some of the rules here at Bombardier Industries
1. Build a customer base by going the extra mile (literally) to deliver a quality product.
2. Pay attention to craft quality items for the discerning buyer who actually looks at the item's stats and not just buy the name.
Look me up i'm usually around Doaba Guerfel, Corellia (Corbantis galaxy)

This theory is somewhat flawed on UXP. Theoretically , if you needed 6000 XP and you crafted 3000 xp worth of stuff. Managed to give every single thing away, and every single one of those got used you would get your 6000 xp. However, if you only make a few items ans sell them you will never get anywhere. I do this: Log on go empty all my hoppers, then travel around all night doing missions. I do all my crafting waiting on Shuttles. At the end of the night I go pay my maintenance on my harvestors and logoff. Before harvestors I ran around surveying and while I was surveying I would craft. I always tried to get out of the city and explore when I didd this, I had fun doing this as well.
