same thing happened to me, I had a house placed early in the games release, took it down and tried toupgrade it in the same area and received the "you cant build here" message. I tried to replace the old house and got the same message. not sure if the area got rezoned or something , it wasnt anywhere near a city (player or otherwise). Yui_Kiy, it might be that when you placed it originally it was a bug and you werent supposed to.

wish I had a better answer than this.

I'm seeing the same crap when I try to place my harvesters. I know I'm nowhere NEAR a city. It's possible there's a lair close by (I'd just destroyed a couple) but what bugs me is 1) it shows green when I try to place it 2) There's other guys with harvesters in place just a few meters away 3) some times the message says "you can perform that in your current state" and I've got NO state shown 4) I'll stay in the same place and just click use deed, use deed, and get a different result each time. Some times it doesn't give me the building not permitted til AFTER i've had a green layout.

I'm pissed too.

if it was near a lair it would say "you cant build this close to a lair"

Yes, this is true if the zoning rights have been turned on. However you would know quite easily if you were within a cities limits so unless this guy is blind...

Problem: "You cannot place a structure in your current state"

- Happens if you just stopped moving, or performing another action. Wait a second and try again.

Problem: "There is not enough room to place a structure here"

- Try again. When you press the mouse button to actually place the structure, hold it down longer. I know it's stupid, but it works.

Problem: "Building is not permitted here."

- Sometimes try again and hold mouse button down longer. Sometimes it's because of a lair, but the area is not yellow in the build interface.

Problem: Most of the other messages are legitimate; municipal zone, zoning rights.

None of these have anything to do with camps, they have their own set of error messages and quirks.

Hi there, I have a question about placing harvesters. Usually I have no problem on most planets, but I have been surveying all over Tatooine and every time I find what I am looking for and try to place a harvester, it says, "Building is not Permitted here." My question is: does anyone know all of the parameters that determine whether or not you can place a harvester? Also, is there a way to determine how close you are to an area where you can build? If not, maybe there should be. When I am trying to place a harvester, and don't know what is preventing me, I also don't know which way I need to go to be able to build, so I'm just running around in circles. Thanks for your help

A couple of things can give that message:

Do you get it before you get to the "overhead placement view" map or after?

  1. If it's before, your character is standing in a "no build" zone. These zones surround NPC cities (out to roughly 1.5-2k) and some (many? most?) POIs. Are you near a player city? These can be "zoned" to be no build to players who have not received zoning rights from the mayor or a mitia member (although I think the error in that situation mentions having to get zoning rights).

  2. If it's after the placement view, does the spot your placing in have yellow markings? If it's uncolored, the spot you're trying to place the harvester is within a no build zone (although your character is not). If it's yellow but without any structures, that usually means that it's a "temporary no build" zone around a lair. If you destroy the lair, that'll clear up the yellow spot.

I think that covers everything. Let me know if it's of any help.

Well, I know you can't build near Static cities, which I wasn't, but how far away do you have to be from POI's? is it still 1.5-2 KM?

I think it is only 500m-1000m

I occasionally get a reject on an otherwise good placement.

I get the green light and everything is good but when I try to drop it, it tells me I can't put it there.

Usually just trying one or two more timeswill let it drop.

More rarely, though, I get a green light but the structure won't go there no matter what I do.

I had that problem with a factory I was trying to place in the midst of a bunch of other buildings.

There was no reason the factory shouldn't have gone down... it just wouldn't go.

If you get the "can't place here" message before the overhead view, you're in a no-build zone.

However, it is possible to be standing outside the zone (on the edge) and try to drop something inside the zone.

You'll get the overhead view but It will then give you the placement message even though you got a green light for placement.

Most cities have limits at 1000m out, but there are a few exceptions. Kaadara has 500m and some outposts have even shorter range. You can normally tell from the closest houses. POIs can be from 500 to 1000m from the center. Especially the southern part of Tatooine have lots of them because of a silly farmer boy and his friends. If you are south of Bestine and there are no structures around, you are probably in a POI zone.

I've gotten the 'You can't place here' a few times when I've place on a green area close to another harvester or a yellow area. I believe it's because the harvester marker warp a little just as I place it. Trying again normally helps for me.
