The survey droids you refer to are "Interplanetary Survey Droids" which require you to have Novice Artisan to use.

I haven't used one of these yet but I believe it simply tells you what resources are available on a given planet, not the exact location of highest concentration.

You can find more detailsin the sticky threads at the top of these forums.

My opinion is that they stink. They will not sample or find resource concentrations for you. The best use for them would be if you are on Tatooine and want to check the resource spawn list on Endor. So in this case it will save you the trip. They also use up a survey tool.

My opinion of the maintenance module is also very low.

Otherwise all the other mods are great. But the survey droid could have been soooo much better.

i think survey droids are great....

love being able to kill jantas while i check what resources are on every planet...

instead of actually having to go to the planets.....

u cant beat that....but ya its definitly not a replacer for artisan survey....so scratch that idea....

Survey Droids have their use.

For example.

I use a website much like SWG Craft, but just for Scylla. Sometimes, whne what I was Harvesting Dries up, I will be looking for something else to Harvest. I see on my web site that a good steel is only on Yavin and has been out for 6 days. Is it still there?

Out goes a Survey Droid, then I tinker around for 30 minutes making Droids.

My report comes back telling me it is or it isn't there.

If it isn't, it saved me the time and moey of a round trip ticket.

I agree. That is my point. The survey droid has really only one function which i noted above. A droid that requires a MDE and several named resources to make should be much more vertisile. At the very least it should be able to give you the stats of the resources surveyed or I'dlike to see an option where you can send it back to take a sample of one of the resources.

At our DEA meeting last week the survey droid came up. The majority of players had crates of them stocked on their vendors not moving.

I use them to find out when I need to go grab a harvester I have set down on another planet, personally.

Just burn a few about 5-8 days after the spawn starts and when you see the stuff you're mining is gone, go grab your harvester.

That use ALONE gives them value to me (and when I clue clients into this use, they go... "oohhh, yea, that would be nice." Cha ching! Sold).

One way I use it is when I see several new listings of a good resource on the bazaar (as if the seller just started mining it), I send a survey droid off to different planets to see if it's still spawning so I can go harvest it. This is much better than taking time away from what I'm doing to go to other planets, just to find that the resource isn't there.

People who say survey droids aren't worth it are just flat wrong. There are people playing this game who are too impatient and are expecting too much, so they will scoff at a lot of things and will never realize the benefits of them. Survey droids are an example of this.

Hmmm...well ok I guess you guys have some good points. For my situation, I only harvest on one planet unless a rare spawn comes up,so I dont get too much use from them.

They tell you what resources there is on a planet of your choice.

It all depends what you expect it to do. It will tell you what resources are available on a given planet. It will not tell you where the deposits are, or what stats the deposits might have. That still requires you to travel to the planet and survey.
