I still don't think certs are totally dead. Not until the devs say they are. If the devs want open mining by all combat characters, it's their game, and they're entitled to make an unimmersive 3D chatroom with great graphics if that is their desire.
I've seen a number of people interpret rather oblique dev statements as "shooting down" harv certs. Not for me. When they say "we won't ever cert harvesters" that will be the end of the topic for me.
Well I did, but I really don't think that the devs will place the resource influx to all crafters into one profession, espacially since that is a novice profession. After all the reason for them getting rid of miner was the dependecy of "All combat professions depend on all carfters which depend on miner". And Miners only attraction and content was "make credits".
I also don't put much faith in that poll taken by Guruweaver, though I don't doubt Guruweaver's intentions in taking the poll. I think the subset of folks who use these boards are not representative of the overall community. And I think that opponents are much more likely to get mad about the idea and come vote here from other forums.
One might as well have posted to people buying something "Someone has proposed an idea that will increase the price you will pay for xxxx. There's a poll going on there." If you aren't concerned, you probably don't come here and vote. If you are, you probably do. Maybe you would come over and vote if you were a roleplayer and didn't like the idea of combat guys mining. But there aren't that many of those.
Well I put enough faith in it, just because you have to remember that Artisan being a novice preofessions that the majority of elite crafters are based off of there are a lot of elite crafters that because they have artisan skills do have input into the profession. The elite crafters are the ones most affected by this.
I mine most of my own resources. I buy good resources that haven't spawned recently. I do use my combat toon's lots to mine with my artisan on admin.
I do the same thing lol, except I adminmy Master Doctor/Master Pistoller toon to them because my Artisan toon is a wimp and can't defend himself lol He is a (Master Art/Master Merchant/Master Politician/Entertainer 0303). I use the lots form both.
What are they going to do about cross-lotting? I haven't heard.
I havent heard what tey are doing about cross lotting either, just the "rebalance of character lots" statement TH gave. One simple solution would be limit them by account. I for one would not be bothered by that...but I dont run any characters on other servers and some do (legitimately)

With the majority of people having more than one account according to the most recent SWG official poll....though I'm not sure if that was just a poll of those who participate in the boards...which would be a biased subset...having more than one account, a profession whose only content is to "make credits" isn't something hopeless. I run my crafter mainly to make credits lol.
Except that account character(miner) has a tripple nested dependency and ALL crafters will be dependant on them for 95% of what they need to craft with.
There are a lot more crafters than there are miners, the difference is what would attract prople to miner lol.

I am wondering what they mean by rebalance lots too. Maybe they are looking at the proposals in this forum and have decided to allow one house per character again to get rid of most of the hoarded resources. That would probably work lol.
That would probably be very kind to their database though.
Maybe they've decided to limit the number of lots that can be used for harvs based on skill set. That would be a rebalance of character lots which would involve...well not a certification...but a change in lot usage rights.
Rebalance character lots is a more complicated thing to say than "limit lots per account." Rebalance implies something having to do with balance issues. Does it not? And it implies in my mind something involving greater finesse than justa flat out lot limit on each account. Then again, maybe I am starting to actually have faith in the devs based on this statement.
I share your wish that the devs would be a bit more specific, Scooter.

Limiting us to one house per person would just force all the crafters to use factories for storage. Limiting us to one or two factories would just force us to use vendors for storage (and piss off everyone who's actually using more then one factory). Taking away houses and factories, and nerfing vendors in such a way that we couldn't use them for storage just means people would get more and more frustrated and quit (or find other more unique ways of finding storage space).
If the devs go out of their way to punish us for playing the game, if they try to limit what we can posses, if they pile frustrating road blocks in our way. Well the more then do those things, the more people will become disgusted with the game and find their enjoyment elsewhere.

Yeah its tough to say how they will fix the cross-server trade problem. Making it so that you have only 10 lots for your whole account would make it very challenging to play characters on multiple servers.
If your "main" is a crafter and you want to play around and make another type of crafter on another server how can you do so without having lots to harvest with? Or any non-combat character for that matter?
At this point I'd have to say the best solution is to makeitso thatonly one account can have admin on harvesters and factories. All other buildings could have multiple admins.
I understand that some cross-server lots trades aretypically on static structures but this may be a compromise solution.
By the way I'm not in favor of limiting crossserver lot tradesbut I suspect they are going to do something to make it tougher.

Seismic,
Can you tell us where you posted threads similar to this thread during the time that poll was being taken by Guruweaver?
