Thread: Will vehicles be craftable?
Under the Developments section, the Devs have indicated that we'll get mounts and vehicles to speed our travels. I'm assuming we'll buy our mounts off of Creature Handlers, but does this mean that a new profession will open up? Will we have a "Vehiclesmith" of some sort?
Do we need skills in Creature Handling or riding in order for us to use these animals and machines? Will Smugglers get to modify them?
Just curious.
This is a very interesting question. I have given some thought to it as well.
Another is will space battles be more in the SIM fashion or still roleplaying....if roleplaying it is, this is understandable otherwise it'd be a new game and engine. But...I fear that roleplayin space battles will turn into sit and spin, which is not fun and not at all immersive.
If it is indeed a new profession that opens up though....what stats and such will benefit the most. What species will have bonuses if any?
Oh and how do I become a jedi ![]()
My educated guess is that when vehicles are patched in, they will also add a Mechanic class or some such. I suspect that this class will be a little sparse to begin with as far as opportunities and schematics, but this will be more than made up for by the huge demand for vehicles when they first come out. The reason these might be sparse is, I expect they'll also get saddled with starship construction.
Now, I do fully expect, as another poster mentioned, that they will rely heavily on components from several different elite professions. I will be highly disappointed if vehicles, or even worse, starships, could be crafted solely by one character (barring a lot of time and respeccing). Hyperdrives will probably fall under droid engineers as computer components, weapons systems will fall to the weaponsmiths, chassis will probably be the mechanic themselves, but body panels may be armorsmiths, etc.
I actually believe that with the Expansion and patches players will get some additional skill points to spend. The Elite Master Professions such as Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, etc. will then be able to use these limited points to further branch off and advance or "super-specialize".
Just a guess, but I don't think you will have to have a special skill to ride a mount like you don't need special skills to operate robots, pets etc... As far as a new profession I am willing to bet they come out with new professions when they release the space expansion (although I haven't read much about it) and I hope to see vehiclesmith among them.
Degamus
Rather than open a new class, which would be a major code change, I would think, they could put different components specs in the existing professions.
DE makes the repulsorlifts, MArt makes the final vehicle, and engines or electronics, AS makes the body and shields, WS adds any weapons, Architect gets a personal garage spec, etc.
Then to get a vehicle, and maintain it, you would have to get cooperation from many professions.
It also opens up a spec for one or more repair tools for the things too... maybe the parking garage in the cities would do that...?
When the patch for player cities, mounts and vehicles comes out, will vehicles finally be craftable? Just curious, any information will be welcomed.
Of course they will be. NOthing else can be bought so these are no different.
The question is who will be making them. A mix of the big 3 crafters or a new vehicle engineer.
A new one would be great. But that new one should be able to build both those and 'spaceships' or whatever you want to call them when those come out in the space expansion.
If they are going to be a seperate profession, im holding off on player mount vehicles.
I pwersonally would like vehicles to be somewhat rare. Therefore my vote would be cast in the form of another elite-elite class, similar to the way Urban Planner is going to work.
Have Vehicle Mechanic or something be based off one of the elite engineering classes (Droid Engineer perhaps?).
