Survey-Thumper:

What is it:

  • A one-time use tool thatMaster Artisanscan set into the ground, and check resource concentrations for all resources of a given type

How it works:

  • Once used, it is consumed

  • 5 Variations, each limited to resources tied to specific Survey Tools (Mineral, Chemical, Flora, Wind, Water, Gas)

  • When used, is brings up a 1000m map (similar in size to planet map, but limited to 1000m) that surveys ALL resources of a given type (Mineral, Chemical, Flora, Wind, Water, Gas) in one-shot.

  • After used, the Master Artisan can browse all resources of a given type (Mineral, Chemical, Flora, Wind, Water, Gas) without needing to individually survey each subtype (steel, aluminum, radioacive, wood, plasteel, etc...)

What benefit is it:

  • Allows Master Artisans to have a final upgrade to the survey-line

  • Personal Surveyors, usually Spend up to 8 hours of thier day wandering from planet to planet surveying 12+ possible resources on each planet (taking time to follow all concentration leads) only to find that the resource shifts once they plant all their harvesters, forcing them to spend another 8 hours the next day to repeat the process again, only to repeat the process every day they play.

  • Professional Resource Resellers, usually plant thier 30+ Harvesters at once, and rarely move them again, pullin gup only what happens to spawn beneath those harvesters. (Because moving borrowed lots is not worth the effort to enlist harvester owners, to waste thier time each day)

Why Master Artisans need it:

  • There are curently no real benifits to becoming a Master Artisan, other than grinding to jedi, or for Architects, Weaponsmiths, and Droid Engineers to manufacture thier own Artisan components.

  • Long-Term Artisans, (those who pick up Artisan and Merchant only) could use an incentive to continue STAYING primary artisans, because currently, there is no benifit tospending the time to look for prime resources to create thier wares with

  • There really is no upgrade to the Survey Tree after box 3.

  • 320m is entirely too short of a range to survey properly.

I like this idea.

That's bad, though. Because every idea that I really like is never implemented.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

There is some hope, that with the SWG Discussion board closing down, that a dev might ACTUALLY see this idea and implement it, or at least discuss options for increasing the survey options and abilities...

Otherwise, what would be the point of thier whole streamlining communications argument?

I could REALLY use something like that.

I think this is an awesome idea. I spend somewhere between 1/2 - 1 1/1 hours daily dealing with tracking resources and their shifts and trying to determine what the attributes of the new resources are. Combine that with making harvester runs and thats alot of "chores" to do before I can get to anything remotely fun. I thinkits pretty funny that with the technology that exists in the Star Wars universe we have to physically go out and see what each and every harvester is doing as well as physically sample every resource to get its attributes. "Wireless, never heard of it, what does that do?" Hehe, anyway, it would be nice if something like that would be put into the game, reduce the amount of chores for artisians.

Another thing that would be nice would be a better inventory management system. Something where I can track all of the resources that I have regardless of their location (house, backpack, bank, etc...) and where I could see all of the attributes of all my resources simultaneously along with the amount that I have of each resource, like in a spreadsheet format where I can click on the attribute and have it sorted for that attribute. I guess while I'm wishing, I'd like a pony too, hehe.

I like this idea.

But, the device should be really expensive and fairly rare. It wouldn't hurt if really nasty fauna would spawn at high concentrations of good stuff to keep the hordes at bay. That way only players who really need the awesome stuff can afford to find it easily, AND they will probably have to get help to go place and tend their equipment, or else they'll get reaquainted with the cloning vat.

For more efficient survey range, what we really need is expendable seeker droids for resources.

I was also thinking about 1/4 to 1/2 lot devices that you could stick into the ground and create a kind of "survey net" that would allow you to use the planet-map to survey for resources.

For professional surveyors, it would be kinda neat to stick 40 of the suckers into the ground, so you could cover half a planet, and offer waypoints for sale to resource hunters.

but thats just WAAAAAY to convenient, and would engate the need for resource shifts in the first place.

It's a good idea, but it might be easier if you just plant a personal harvester, look through the available resources, then follow whatever leads you get with a normal survey tool. You can just destroy the harvester after that.

Even if we were to get such item as mentioned, it probably will consume more resources than a personal would to make.

Besides, how many people out there with 10 empty lots carry around 10 mineral, 10 chemical, 10 gas, 10 water and 10 flora harvesters so they can get whatever has the highest concentration?

I like the idea, but a throw-away personal harvester works almost as good, IMHO.

Don't mean to flame here, this is just my opinion here.

Sorry, misread the original post. I thought it was a tool that can survey all 5 types at once.

I would like to see Masters get more of a range on their tools, like 1000m or something.

I would also like to see a planetary survey tool as part of starship optional equipment. It would only be one thing at a time like regular tools now but, it would give you an entire planet map of whatever you surveyed for and would have a 1 day recharge time or something.
