Thread: Vehicle customization info, and comments
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make vehicle customization simple SOE!!
Not trying to argue here, mostly because I know the Devs could care less about my opinion, but my Master Artisan tag will disappear for good and if anyone asks, the vehicles on my vendor I bought somewhere else and am reselling!
I am sure they will change the schematic for the customization so that a begining prof will not be dependent on a elite prof. that would be like going back to how repair kits once where. I am sure that will be removed. Just give it a little time to be tested out and i am sure, there will be complaints about it not being very productive.
In time, we will see how it turns out. Remember, they kept changing the vehicles around a few times before they let us all have them.
From the test server boards (patch info)
Vehicle Customization:
New tool allows players to 'paint' their vehicles.
Vehicle Customization Instructions:
Master Artisans can customize vehicles; they can craft vehicles and customization kits. Players should find Master Artisans and make the request. Once a player has selected a Master Artisan who will perform the customizations, players must give consent to an artisan to begin and should unconsent when the customization is complete.
• Type /consent *name* can now customize your vehicle colors, assuming they have that ability, tools necessary, etc.
• Type /unconsent *name* can no longer customize your vehicle colors.
Vehicles
• Improved Vehicle performance.
• New tool allows players to 'paint' their vehicles.
• You can now have 3 vehicles stored in your datapad at a time. YAY!
• Radial menu will now update properly after generating or storing vehicle.
Current Schematic
12 metal
9 mineral
6 mineral
1 control unit (10 metal, 10 polymer, 5 Low grade Ore, 3 Copper, 3 Inert gas)
1 droid storage compartment (23 metal)
Total resources: 81 (45 metal, 15 mineral, 10 polymer, 5 Low grade Ore, 3 Copper, 3 Inert gas)

While I am looking very much forward to customizing my vehicle(s), I am dissapointed if this is indeed how it is going to happen.Iwill probably spend little to no time customizing anyones vehicle, unless I happen to be in my shop at the time of purchase. First,in my opinion, master artisans should be able to create this kit, butall should be ableto useit. It is allready hinted at that the color will "wear" off, meaning that people will just stop bothering after a while if they have to find a master artisan every time to re-color their vehicles. It is a cool featurethat will turninto an annoyance.
Second, the schematic should not include anything from another profession (I'm sure all the DE+MA will disagree :smileywink
. The droid storage compartment can be made at novice DE and you need 23 metal to make it, and I am pretty sure the quality of it wont matter at all. Why include this in the schematic? If you need another subcomponent, take it from the artisan tree.Very fewartisans will buy these from DE's , if they intend to mass produce the kits (not that they cost much anyway). It is just a timesink, again making customizing a vehicle an annoyance (after the initial novelty factor wears off). Why this kit should be so much more complex than the vehicle isn't exactly logical either
.
I would like to see these two changes. 1 - Make the kits usable by all (the current composite armor "fix" shows that this is easy to do) and 2 - replace any non artisan subcomponents with an artisan subcomponent (finally a use for the nemoidian bird cage? :smileyvery-happy
. If it stays as it is, I bet you wont see many showing off their Master Artisan title come patch day
.
I can deal with DE "closets" (maybe it's the "spray booth" component
) but I'd rather just sell the things outright.. Nuna Shrive has other duties besides "Paint Your Wagon".. I've got a city gov to run.
More additions to /tellhell.. ![]()
As a master artisian I find the requirements for the paint kits to be, somewhat, laughable.
If I can make avehicle with nothing but iron and non-iron metals, why does it take a droid engineer to make them look diferent? Where did I get the paint for the X34 in the crafting stage? How can the vehicles work without a control unit, electronics gp module, energy distributor, power conditioner.... or any other form of electronics, and yet for a coupple cans of paint I need what?
Make a new class, one that specializes in vehicles, ground craft and space craft, put it into the space expantion, but for now make the customization kit require metal (case) polymer (paint), just like vehicles only need steel (frame) and non-ferrous (working parts).
While it doesn't affect me too much, since on the server I mostly play on I have a Master Artisan on my second account, I can already tell that any of my alternate characters on other servers will never have their vehicle painted.
Even if I knew where to find a Master Artisan and they were online and they were happy to paint my ride for me... It'll fade away within a couple of day's play and then I'll have to find another MA and beg them all over again...
Finding good, reasonably priced weapons, armour, clothing etc is hard enough - and it's rare for me to see the creator in their shop at the time I'm buying.
The idea is less bad if the time over which the paint fades is lengthened considerably. It should take *at least* a month before it begins to fade. Then at least after the initial rush of painting it would become more manageable for Master Artisans to handle repainting jobs.
I can't see myself sitting around all day painting vehicles for pennies when I could be crafting weapons, or armour, or food, or clothing...
But if I can just do a couple of quick paint jobs a day and have my "customer" drive off happily for a month, that'd be a different matter!
OR MORE VEHICLES! Like, to replace all the ones that blow up due to bugs, for example.
Paint kits for Vehicles, Armour and Droids should all be usable by any player but only craftable by whoever is responsible for creating the item to be coloured. Then the professions themselves can work out a suitable price for the paint.
And one thing that's been lost under all the "No, bad idea" posts and that I should've mentioned before - if the paint is going to be fading on everyone's vehicles all the time, most vehicles will still end up looking identical, or very close to the same when the paint is almost gone. But if we can carry around a tin of paint with us while we're out and about, we can touch it up if the colour starts to go, keeping things looking unique(ish).
I know my alternate characters would be happy to pay a couple of thousand credits for a mini crate-o-paint to tote around.
But what's the point. The devs have already made up their minds and they won't change anything for months, if ever. Sad.
I just want to know 1 thing?
WHY THE H3LL IS THIS SCHEMATIC MORE COMPLEX THEN THE ONE FOR VEHICLES??????

I understand what you are saying drwoobie (really a tailor is needed to make food??)
No, they just need us to make their new chef clothes
I'll be the first to say when I'm wrong. Didn't know you guys needed Tailor sub-components for your beverage holders.
That's just weird....
