Thread: Is There A Way To Lower Your Sampling Points?
You may be able to lower it just a few points, but don't bother. A couple hotfixes ago SOE jacked up the action cost as well as increasing inbetween sampling times by 250% I went from 112 action points to 226 per sample. That is why I plopped down 7 harvesters and gave up on manual gathering.
Thank your AFK macroers for this.
The best way to "lower your sampling points" is to increase your regen time with stat migration. I'm not sure which secondary stat is the key... quickness or stamina maybe?
I've got Rodian with min action but max quickness, stamina, focus, and willpower. In the 25 sec down time i completely regenerate my action and mind pools. thus I can sample indefinately now.
I don't afk sample though, i've got too many other things to do, but this really helps in a pinch when i need to 'spot' mine for some materials. Otherwise, I prefer medium and heavy harvesters
I macro BECAUSE of the drop in sampling results.
I am at a low level so harvestors are not an option, though they will be way to hard for me to maintain as a casual gamer. so what am I gonna do? am I going to sit at my PC and just stare at it while it chugs away pulling up maybe 12 resource a minute? no, I'm going to macro 2 cycles while I alt-tab to my email or AIM or whatever. yell at me for macroing, but how is me staring at the screen for 2 hours any different than not staring at the screen for 2 hours and doing the same action?
what we need is NPCs we can pay like 100 cr for 3 hours to harvest while we work on our other skills.
Oh, a side note to all you scouts who craft, if you build a basic camp on a good resource type and sample IN your camp, when you leave it like 30 minutes later oyu get like 550 scouting points. now I won't ever sample without my tent. ![]()
Hmmmm...
Well, I can tell you one thing, sampling's not going to get you anywhere, whether it's AFK macro-sampling or not.
Someone said they get 2 to 3K of resources a day from sampling? That's crap.
I get 10-15K a day off 8 Harvesters on a good spot. I craft things that make me more money than I could ever hope to spend. I could pay some gimp for those 2 to 3K that I'm missing. ![]()
Folks, learn to set yourself up with a good Harvester infrastructure. Those measely 1K or 2K of resources you're pulling up may get you to Engineering 4, but take a look at the XP requirements for the real crafting professions...Weaponsmith takes 21,000 XP to hit Novice, and another 35K to get the first skill box of any of the trees. Think about it...that's roughly 10.5K resources just to hit Novice!!! And another 17.5K resources to get *1* skill box. At 2 to 3K a day, it's gonna take you maybe 5 or 6 days to get the resources for Novice, plus another couple of days to actually grind your way up to that level.
At Engineering 3, you can make Harvesters. 8 Harvesters and 2 Wind Generators will sustain themselves. Harvesters pick up roughly (2000 * Resource %) units of resources every 24 hours. It costs 720 credits to maintain Harvesters per day, another 1460 per Wind Generator. Power you won't have to worry about, as long as you have your Wind Generators at a 50% or better source. So, total cost per day is 8,680 credits. You're now saying "OMG I CAN'T AFFORD THAT!!" Of course you can!!! That's what missions are for!
Craft yourself up a nice Heavy Axe (Ignore the CDEF guns). Pick up 2 Destroy missions to kill some lair somewhere. Run in there, kill the mobs surrounding the camp, one by one. Next, take 1 hit at the lair, and Peace immediately. Run back 2 steps...wait for another mob to spawn. Kill that mob. Take 1 more hit at the liar, Peace immediately...etc. etc. etc. That's how you destroy a lair easily.
The reason I recommend the Heavy Axe is because a Master Artisan can make an amazing Heavy Axe, and nobody ever buys one, so they usually give them away or sell them incredibly cheap (a Master Artisan with about 12-15 Experimentation points can pump out a Heavy Axe that one-shot-kills just about any little critter in the wilderness). The CDEF guns cap out at 60-65 damage, and range is always a problem.
So, now you're hacking critters with a big Axe, making money off Destroy missions...if you're smart, you're also getting your Brawler skill trained up, upgrading your weapon, and using some Scout skills to Harvest hide and bone off of the creatures (which you later sell to Tailors or other artisans for a nice chunk of change).
Anyhow...you run 10 of these Destroy missions in a night (this takes about 1 to 2 hours, MAX, if you use the system I'm telling you). That makes you 10,000 credits, which you the pump into your Harvesters and Generators.
Next day, you get back to your Harvesters...boom, you just made 10-15K of resources. You did that all in 1 night...you had fun whacking critters (not Sampling all night)...you probably got out to see some of the world...you're not annoyed that you're a helpless Artisan, and you now havea system you can work for increasing your skills.
For those of you who say, "I'm an Artisan, I never want to kill anything!" Don't think of this as killing...think of this as Harvesting. You're going to be going after some very easy prey, and you're going to make a good profit doing so. Plus, the weapon skill is going to come in handy later on when a couple of aggro mobs are camped by your Harvesters, waiting for you. At that point, you whip out your Two Handed Curved Sword, smile at the creatures, and proceed to hand them their arse with a flurry of 2 Hand Spin Attacks you acquired as a Specialist at Two Hand fighting.
And to whom said:
"Its hard to sit and mine i agree but now i mine about 20 pieces of metal and gotta sit for 5 or 6 minutes. Way too time consuming now."
In 5 or 6 minutes I can have 50 units, or more. You should look into stat migration and set your self up better.
Quick refresher for those of you who do not have the manual that came with the game. ![]()
