Hi

I recently aquired ENG IV, I am now looking at earning 20k+ xp, before I can get a novice smith title.

My query is, how do I get there?

I make couplers, which yield 20xp per item.

I don't sell 20 couplers a week, and even if I did I estimate it will take me 2 earth years to get the novice smith title.

If I am honest, I have no clue about bone armor or melee weapons, the only thing I can make well are power ups.

I don't want to make an item just to destroy it.

I don't really want to grind it either.

What are my options?

I don't know if I am right (but I am pretty sure) that you get less xp for something if you got to a higher level. That means, if you are Eng IV and build all the time things you can already do with Eng I, a guy with Eng I will get more exp than you get because he is doing the best he can.

So, I would say look what you can only build with Eng IV (and not with Eng I - III) e.g. a heavy axe. That should give you the most exp. The only new powerup you can build with Eng IV ist the stock (?). If you only want to build powerups, do this one.

Unfortunately, you've just listed all your options.

My suggestion is to branch out. I went for the Domestic Arts tree because I want to be a chef. I've found that selling food is not all that tough since it's a consumable item there's always demand (even if not a lot of demand, it is there). You get GCXP for crafting food the same as you do for crafting powerups. Even the low-level food items are sellable although probably not for profit.

I wish the developers had included some form of crafting missions that you could get from terminals to supplement the crafting income and XP.

stocks yield 20xp aswell.

I really have no clue about melee or clothing, I can assure you my attempts will yield nothing but fails.

the only thing I have nailed is couplers.

thanks for your replies, but If we don't kick up a storm about this grind thing, they will ignore us.

hmm yes crafting misisons, does sound like a good idea, although probably exploitable or something.

Dear Dev's,

I recently aquired ENG IV, and am now on the journey to a Novice smith title.

I am chronically lazy, and don't see grinding as an option, just the same as I don't see deleting the hand crafted items I make as an option.

My emphasis is on quality.

I was excited to see a whole line of skills dedicated to munitions, and out of all the skills and professions in the game, I have to say munitions is thething that get's me excited.

I am not a shooter or a politician, I can't heal people or stand around blowing a slitherhorn, all I can really say is I have a passion for blowing things up.

However I am thouroughly disheartened by the fact that my only option if I want to acheive novice smith before the year 2005 will be to delete the lovingly hand crafted damage amps I make.

Is this what you intended?

I can't honestly see the logic in this.

I was hoping to have merchants greedily offer me orders around the planets which would give me an alternative to deleting, this does not seem to be the case, other players who obviously have reached novice smith title, can only suggest that I grind and delete.

When I first came to crafting, I was impressed by the depth of the problem, and spent an hour and a half devising an equation which was modularized by ten using variable to the power n, etc etc.

However after that, intellectually it was down hill from there.

What would be your suggestion to me, a person who takes pride in creating these lovely little things I know as couplers, in regards going from ENG IV to novice smith.

(I am hoping to branch out into vehicle components, once that is available)

You could put them up on the bazaar for 25cr. In a small town like Restuss on the least populated server (Valcyn) you can sell over 100 a day there easy.

? it costs 20 creds to list on the bazaar, and you can only have 25 items on there at any time, how is that profitable

You must be making some really sucky couplers if you can't sell them. I just sell the Max Min damage power ups and destroy the rest though. Maybe thats why you can't sell them. Most players don't understand antything other than damage.

bearing in mind that I get +20 %dmg, and most people are getting +2%

Anyway I just looked at bone armor, and It is unprofitable aswell.

I would need to buy hide and bone, and get a harvestor for metal, and survey manually for chems

So even before I make one piece of armor Im 4-5k in the hole.

I do the same

I get 70% experimental success, and sell only the +20% dmg couplers, all the rest are scrapped or given away as promotional items.

I do sell couplers, but I need to sell 20,000 to go from ENG IV - to novice smith

I can only list 25 items at any one time, So I can only sell approx 20 couplers a week, thats 100 couplers per five weeks.

This isn't about the creds, it's about the XP, I'm ok for creds, I do deliever misisons on my way to checking my sales, to cover travel costs, and I sell my couplers at the highest I can, which, concidering I am one of the best coupler makers on my galaxy, works ok.
