There I am ,sitt ing in the wild, digging up a nice concentration of steel (83%),minding my own business, and I get chased and slaughtered by 3 tusk cats .couldnt call my bike to escape cos it said I was in combat. NO I'm not I'm running for my life.

Every time I try and go back there ,the pride is sitting on my waypoint.but at least I,m on my bike now.

The point of this rambling is what can I do to improve my survival chances.

1. Is there a type of camp I can get to avoid attack.

2. What armour gives the best protection, but is affordable for a poor newbie artisan, and will it ruin my HAM if I am using survey macros

3.Any other help you can offer.

Thanks

Armour wise, probably Ubese as its cheaper than Composite but high in Kinetic (since the majority of the time you'll only worried about creatures aggroing you). However like all armor it will affect your ham secondaries and thus increasing the cost of actions.

One of the things I tend to do whilst out and about surveying and trying to avoid being lunch is using Mask Scent. Buy some BE clothes that add to this and also there is some food or drink that helps. None of this will help of course if you're away from keyboard macroing as the stuff wears off.

you need some combat skills! Rifleman or Teras Kasai would be my recommendation, for the skill point investment, either make you very able to take care of yourself. An alternative would be some of the upper end ranger camps, they have defenses and wandering critters rarely go into them. Also, armor will drastically hamper your surveying unless you are buffed. Hope it helps

Thanks for that.

I've got marksman 1-2-0-1 but it does **** all good against red spot mobs.

I like the idea of BE mask scent clothes. Is that just clothes or armour too,

And I'll just bet its horribly expensive, right ??

Scent masking is not expensive. You can either build up your scout skills, or puchase some Jawa Beer at a local cantina. Jawa Beer masks your scent. I've found it very helpful against critters. I would also recommend a Chitin armor, as an artisan. Not too expensive and works well against kinetic attacks.

I have an artisan that is 4/4/4/4 and has never picked up a combat prof. I've died a couple times out in the wild, but can count them on one hand. I usually sampled in player cities or not far from the main ones. after you get survey 4(shouldn't take long) use a vehicle, make some harvesters and you'll be fine. Like I said I never have had much trouble with my artisan, nor had to pick up ANY combat skills.

Takes time, Really. Can't start out on top. After some time you'll pick up some combat skills and it will change. Today I have Pistoleer 0-1-4-1 and composite ... I kill the tusk cats .... you will too.

Others have point out some options for you. Another option:

A diversion may be helpful. Try a mechanical or biological pet. Call them on the last 100 m to your waysite. You'll need some med skills to heal a bio pet ( and yourself, biological right! ). No skills needed for mechanical pet heals.

In my experience Jawa Beer adds a skill mod increase to the mask scent ability, you still need to be a scout with exporation (?) 2 to mask your scent. But if you've seen and used this skill producing drink then id like a sip.

Have pet stim usage been altered, been a while since I used a pet but I use to use pet stims without Medic?

hmmm... maybe.... I thought so. Now you have me questioning my memory on Pet Stims.Memory module breaking down. I'll verify this for myself tonight.

I do know that a Stim A, which was usable on pets do / still require a medic requirement.

A quick visit to the Creature Handler forum reveals...

From Vertexon

Section 8 - Healing your Pet

If you have at least the Novice Medic skill, you can heal your pet's damage with stimpacks, just as you would another player. Even if you have no medical skills, you can use Pet Stimpacks (which are made by Bio-Engineers) to keep your pet healthy in battle. This is extraordinarily helpful in most combat situations, and can often make the difference between an incapped/dead pet and a victorious pet. Always keep a few stimpacks or pet stimpacks on hand while traveling.

Always keep a neutron pixie on the toolbar as a last resort, it acts instantly and you don't need any skills to use it.

It saved my life several times.
