That might go over better with one type of weapon. Do a "rifle" starter pack, and a "Pistol" starter pack, for example. Most people start out with one weapon, so they'd be buying extra weapons they wouldn't neccessarily use.

I like the idea because you would also be giving a travel pack which is invaluable. I agree though, don't put too many newbie weapons since they will be getting those automatically. The power-ups sound really good but make sure you label them well (your name at least) so they can contact you when they need more.
You could even include an advertisement in the pack -- chance cube or example that says something like this in the name: "send a /tell to (your name) and redeem this cube for a 1/2 price speederbike" That might be too many characters but you get the idea.
You might be able to build a nice customer base this way.

Another suggestion I'd have for you is find a novice smuggler with Slicing 2. He/she will be able to slice weapons, but they'll be mostly miserable slices. Work out a deal where your cr@ppy weapons get sliced... the smuggler gets to go to town on slicing experience w/out teeing off some L337 dude w/ a crappy slice & you'll have significantly better odds of selling them on the bazaar.
I know this because I'm a smuggler/lvl 3 slicer and Master Artisan... for awhile I was grinding weaponsmith <---miserable! and had a ton of mediocre weapons. Sliced every single one of them and actually moved most of them over time on the bazaar.
You will have to haggle a little on the tools the smuggler will need to slice. Cases of 25 molecular clamps usually can be found on Cor bazaar for ~5k. You can make the Weapon Upgrade Kits that are another part of the equation. Odds are if you pick up some of the cost, the smuggler will be delighted w/ the XP. (hell, if your on Kettemoor, lets talk
, still haven't made Slicing IV!! )

Hi all, I recently mastered artisan and am planning on selling "starter packs". These packs would contain all 3 ranged CDEF weapons with a selection of powerups and maybe a set of bone armor contained in a travel pack.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried something like this and if they sold well? I'm sure there must be a fair few new guys out there with the launch of JTL so there might be a market of stuff like this.
Cheers

If anyone from FarStar reads this, and is willing to help me out with factory runs etc please email me (Keilo) I'm a newbie, so you might have to explain a few things to me

Thanks for your input Je'Cy. I must admit that was my biggest worry with this.
I was planning on selling them for 1.5k maybe 2k as the reward for the starter quest are 2k. It would have to involve some pretty aggressive advertising though so as to catch the buyers whilst they still need the equipment.
I'm trying to work through the numbers atm to find out if it would be a profitable venture (I dont need a big profit, but cant afford a loss)

the idea is good in theory but it has a flaw. Newbie gear is exactly that, for the new guys. They all have something in common and what is that you ask? they have no money. Now i dont know what you are charging but as ive started on different survers with no gear, no cash, and no hand outs i know its not easy. Yea i guess you could run missions for a couple hours to get your gear but by that time you have lvled up quite a bit and will probly no longer want a cdef. Also if you have gone that long with no armor you would probly just wait a bit longer and get some nice chiten, or ubeese.
The person starting out normally buys gear peice meal, when they can afford it.
I did starter packs, put in a stimpack, some food and a crate of power ups and some spice. about 8 things or soo. I sold um for 500 credits. I know i didnt make a dime on um and basicly lost money but it was to help people get started. Maybe they would come back and buy my higher stuff later : ) I sell droids, armor and at the time weapons for my freind. I did a great bussiness durring the free trail back in the summer, but since then it has died and i stoped selling the packs and am thinking about closing the store completly.
Just thouight you would like to know my experiance with um : )

Something that should be different, IMO. Artisans should craft all Marksman and Brawler weapons. Weaponsmiths should craft all Elite Profession weapons.

Actually I'll have to disagree with the weapon comment. Since most weapons the fighters use are from the base trees. The fighting professions get usually only 1 weapon at Novice. This doesnt count for commando of course.
Remember Artisan is a base set of skills that you are supposed to build something onto. Moving C12's and base weapons into Artisan would weaken WS considerably. But how about this for a comprimise. Artisan gets D18 pistol, DLT20 rifle, DH17 carbine. The downside of this is that you move down a lot of components. Its like saying engineering 4 should get MSE droids. In order to accomplish this Engineering 4 would gain you like 30 components. So this isnt really that viable since someone coming into game spending 29 points and not that much grinding all of a sudden can make quite a little profit from just engineering 4.
Theres a comprimise in here somewhere. But right now I think that in the case of engineering you are looking at the fact that bone armor will gain, most likely, a new use after the combat upgrade. In the domestic arts tree are foods that chefs cant duplicate such as jawa beer's effect. Or learning to make things like exo-protien wafers because of there incredibly small stomach fillings.
Engineering has small harvesters and powerups. The powerups are very profitable trust me Im selling them at 9k a crate and keep 200 on my vendor because of sales. I can understand the idea of adding more to the profession to keep it from being stale. But in the same respect you dont want to remove the need of elite professions.
Think more low level think more base new player when thinking of artisan upgrades
