Thread: How to make a macro repeat itself?
I wonder if that's why they give 4x instead of 2x - perhaps we get no use-exp for components like that. The 4x would make up for that deficiency.
Something to test out, anyway.
The short answer is: You can't.
And now, with the "adjustment" they made late in BETA, long-running macros appear to stop running after a period (perhaps when you go AFK?)
Please ignore my 4x vs 2x post above. Somehow I posted the wrong reply here.
You can make it repeat itself... You make an alias file and load to start the macro. Inside the alias, just call itself and it will repeat over and over. You have to logout to stop the loop...
But as mentioned, there is an automaticlogout when in AFK for a short time, so you have to be active in the game while the macro is running...
Isnt' there a way to change the timer on the auto-afk? Perhaps turn it off even? It's been a while since i've looked at that screen, but I might have to check it when i get home tonight.

I wonder how many of you posting have ever played an online game before...Reason being that you are talking about a subject that is widely taboo when it comes to Devs and Moderators. If you want to talk about unattended macroing and that sort of thing to other players and all that, that is cool, but it is extremely unintelligent to talk about it on the forums of the company that is regulating the game. Unattended macroing is a bannable offense in all online games and I am assuming it is in SWG too. So....if you want to be flagged as a possible "trouble" player then go ahead and ask how you can make thousands of samples while you are asleep or away from the computer...

trhat's the thing. It's not taboo here, as far as I know. It's using the IN GAME macro system to take some of the tedium out of an existing game system. Beta testers asked again and again if this was an exploit, or an intended use of the system, and were NEVER given any indication that it was a problem.

During the last week of beta, Sal_The_Pal reported that being able to use the in-game macro tool to allow for hours and hours of sampling was working as designed. Although he didn't come straight out and encourage people to use unattended macros, it was obvious that he wasn't trying to bust anyone for using them.
About two weeks before beta ended, there was a change to the alias code that limited you from using one macro to call itself repeatedly.
However, it is still possible to create a macro that will run for a very, very long time. My current sampling macro would run for 3 days if the server stability permitted it to do so.
It's true; there's no official injunction against unattended macroing yet, and Sal basically endorsed it on the Beta boards.
It's also true that they've been busily altering the macroingsystem in an apparent effort to make it difficult to macro unattended for any significant length of time.
So.... mixed messages. Until and unless we get a clear policy statement, use your best judgement.
Thanks for the great info Yukon and Joshie....
Sounds like they are realizing the implications of unattended macroing. Still, just like in many other online games, people will find a way around it. From what I understand though, just like you said, you can create a macro that will run for quite a long time. I wonder if they will try to nerf that too. =0
Hehh...No, unattended macroing as in....login in at 8:00am and starting the macro and then leaving for work and returning in about 10 hours. =)
