Thread: Everyone should start as an Artisan

Due to the fact that if you start as an Artisan you get a mineral survey tool, a chemical survey tool, and a general crafting tool, it would be in everyones best interests to begin as a Novice Artisan. You can do an instant stat migration while you are on the Space Station to get your stats where you would like them to be for whatever profession you plan on pursueing later. Than once you get to your starting city you can simply train Novice Marksman/Brawler/Scout/Medic/Entertainer. If you don't have enough money for all the professions you would like to have when you begin you can just run a mission. I also like having Artisan skills as a combatant so I can sample all night long while I sleep and than sell the resources in the morning for some extra credits.

You won't be able to "sample all night long" anymore. They made some sort of fix late in BETA so that once you go AFK, your macros appear to stop. You can still sample while AFK, but your macro chain will break and you'll have to manually restart the sample when you run out of action and mind.

Good, I was wondering when they were gonna fix that. Granted /sampling is mind-numbing, but maco'ing all night just sucks up bandwidth.

What is this "instant migration" you speak of to get your stats in order? You can actually reconfigure your stats after you create a character?

Yes, Nomaar. In the space station, before you choose your starting city, you can go to your character profile, click on the stat migration button, and distribute your starting skill points as you please.

Willpower and Stamina are very helpful if you plan to do much surveying

How are you doing the macroing? I would just like to do it while I'm afk getting a drink/food. So it's fine that it breaks.

perform a survey and before you smaple try this.

ctrl + s

go to macro tab

click create new macro

pick an icon

in the command field type something like

/stand; /sample; /pause 600; /sit; pause 400;

there you go you'll now sample for 600 seconds you can make it longer or shorter.

you can obviously get more complex but assign that to a hotbar and click it every few minutes while watching tv and your all set.

I have much more advanced ones if you are interested.

What the heck. I'm interested. What more advanced ones do you have? Or do you just mean repeat the cycle?

I agree. It makes no sense to me that they just dont start all players with the requisite tools.

There is no benefit to NOT starting as an artisan and much benefit for doing so.

the more advanced ones just print out text to myself /tell endora xxx; at certain intervals, or before starting a new sample run a medical forage etc.

the really long ones you need to load alias files, i'll post how to later tonight, in theory if the server was up and running using my alias i could sample for 3-4 days straight, but with the new code i think if your flagged AFK though macros stop working.

Now that you mention it, I don't recall the instant stat migration when I created my character. I always got it in beta if I skipped the tutorial, but I don't remember seeing it yesterday when I went through the full intro training level.

You can ALWAYS stat migrate. If you ctrl-c there is a stat migration button. If you do this in the Character creation screen, it will be instant, but after that it you can set them where you want them and they will migrate there over time.
