which weapon type do u fellow artisans choose to use.... pistol, carbine or rifle for the early game and long term. If you also put skill points into the matching weapon skill how high up that tree do u expect you will go with it? to the top? or just lvl1?

I would go pistol, it is currently the most over power PVE weapon.

I started out with Rifle (I've always liked the sniper role) and gotten it to level 2, but I recently switched to a Carbine and discovered that I'm actually better with Carbine (no skill levels) than with lvl 2 Rifle. Maybe it's just me, but that's what I've discovered so far.

no your right knuckles. All CDEF weapons do the same damage, yet rifles do it the slowest, and incur a HEAVY damage bonus against you when in melee.

I like the carbine, it has worked well for me so far.

of course I plan on taking carbineer in addition to my crafting skills.

Are all these artisians really wasting points into increasing fighting skills? You guys are spreading yourselves too thin!! I understand that you want to do more than just craft, but if you don't get better professions you will not be able to make anything that people can use. When most of the players are looking for high level clothes, weapons and armor you will be limited to the basic junk and no one will buy anything. Along with that your fighting skills will suffer from lack of points and you won't be able to fight anything either! You want to fight, then make another character on another server and focus only on combat. You could also figure out how to unlock the FS slot and have your second character on your present server.

I'm generaly developing rifle and pistol, not working at them too hard...

My prefered method of combat is hitting the burst run and not fighting right now tho. I'll get a few levels up in Marksman, but never going to get into the elite professions with weapons. Personaly, my long range goals are tailoring and armor, but I havn't sat down and checked out how the skill points work out on paper.

Well, the reason I picked up some basic blaster skills is so I don't end up dieing everytime I go out to maintain and unload my harvesters or sample for resources. I haven't see a group of ready combat types around lift a finger to help someone in standard crafter clothing obviously in trouble. Sometimes crafters help out other crafters though.

you have 250 points JHEDEYE, that's more than enough to master an elite combat profession and artisan profession.

raising your weapon skill makes your life easier. especially when you have to run out to the middle of nowhere to find a place to put a harvestor. and if you ever decide you wanna be a pure artisan, you can get your skill points back at will
