How many of you want to become a shipwright?

And how many of you know that 1000 people will beat you to Master Shipwright, and already have millions of credits, and have already been stockpiling millions ofinorganic minerals for quite some time?

You don't really stand a chance do you. Everyone will have an "uber" ship within the first 2 weeks of the SE launch, and then the excitement will be over.

I am hoping that for the SE launch, the devs will introduce some new resources. They will still be the same steel, ore, aluminium etc, but they will have new stat types. For example, new shifts of iron might be given a new stat called "hyperspace resistance" (ok it would be called something else but u get the picture).

This would render all current resources to Shipwrights USELESS. I think this is a good thing as it will provide a much larger chance for all crafters to start on a level playing field when the SE launches. Obviously the people with millions of credits will still have an advantage but at least they will have to work to get the resources just like the newer crafters when the SE is launched.

It just seems unfair to me that those crafters who have dominated the market so long will already have the upper hand in the "space race". Come on give devs please give someone else a chance.

Well, the successful craters/PAs will still have an advantage by the fact that they'd likely be able to harvest the new resources faster. Plus, I'd think adding stats to the existing resource tables would be quite a chore for no real long-term benefit. But the idea has potential...

The ships could require a new specific sub-type, like how weapons require specifically "Plumbum Iron". So say when JTL goes live, servers start spawning "Hyper-neutronium Steel", a required material for ship components. The new type(s) would act just like existing types (sometimes spawning, sometimes not), with the same stat categories, handled the same way going forward, but would give the same level starting point.

Of course, then we run the risk of someone forgetting to flip the switch to start spawning those types, leaving shipwrights with nothing to make. And that could end up beingtoo far the other way: ships might be too slow to come out, leaving JTL players with only their starter ships for an inconveniently long time.

Personally, I hope the ship schematics are kept tightly under wraps until release, so the resource requirements (andcontributing stats)are a surprise. The shipwrights offering stuff the first day or two would have the novelty factor, but better quality ships would come up later as crafters get resources with the right stat mixture.

If I were to bet, I'd say to stock on on some of the "weirder" resources like solid petrochem fuel which aren't used in existing items.

I dont think so myself because first you need to got up the skill tree (I hope it will take time) and also think new resouces will hit the market on lauch so stopping stock piling of the new resouces now (think ships need heat shields to come back to earth) there is a new resouces type.

I hope they make shipwright much like bio-engineer is now(you can never make the same pet twice) and I hope you cannot make a uber ship with all the best stats but need to choose between powerful weapons or having low shields or having high shield and slower speed, Meaning if you up the power of weapons the other stats go downbelive this in turn will make the PvP more fair.

my alt is working twords

Master DE

Master Artisan

Master Shipwright

Novice Merchant

Do i have a huge stockpile of resources? well, i do for my doc, but my alt is mostly going to work on DE resources for a while atleast. I would guess they probly wont introduce new resources with the SE, alot of unneeded work. The better prepared people should have an advantage, the people that have alot of people helping them should have an advantage. Will i be one of the first master Shipwrights on my server? probly not, i despise grinding like no other, but i love crafting once your master. Will i be the biggest shipwright on the server? no, but i will be able to sell/upgrade/repair ships for me and my friends and guild and other random people.

This is just like the when CH mounts first came out. people wanted it so you have to have tamed a pet after the patch to mount it, instead of trying to get something like that done, they should have just bought a BE pet and let it grow in their datapad to be prepared for the patch.

I agree with Ganger in that the tree will need to be sorted first so Uber ships will take a while.

I just seriously hope that they set it up to where You have to be a Master Artisan in order to go Shipwright. That would make a lot of sense because you have to master in order to build a vehicle- why not a spaceship? It would be cool if Mastering Artisan would go into an elite like that- that would give good call for them not to be Uber dependant on Armorsmith, Weaponsmith and Droid Eng. for components (although some dependancy should occur- just note that this will drive ship costs through the roof- as if they weren't going to be expensive as hell already).

Oh, and I hope masters get jetpack schems too.

Then hopefully this thing about putting certs on heavies will get pushed back down into the sh!tter where it belongs. LOL!

Anyone who wants to become a shipwright still has plenty of time to gather resources in anticipation. The trick is gambling on what you believe will be the important resources and stats for shipbuilding.

I already have to keep track of an insane number of different resources for WS and DE. If the devs add new resources or stats my head will explode and there goes one more paying customer for SOE.

I actually agree with the author of this thread. The current resources should not be able to be used for shipbuilding.

Hopefully the current grind materials, not being able to be stacked in lots of over 100k, will just keep losing value such that they will end up being deleted.

Sorry throwing the whining flag.

I've been preparing for Space for nine months. All I can say is why haven't you?

Sure, being a shipwright might be fun. I've saved an entire skill tree worth of points to master it. I've got my ap's and I've saved up some generic resources.

Does it bother me that 5000 others will make master before me .. certinaly not. I may not evenchoose to master it. Does it bother me that in two days/weeks/months time all the immediate demand for ships will have been met .. again certainly not, why would it? Unless everyone who will ever buy the game does so in the first two weeks, and unless space ships are invulnerable, their should be a need for shipwright services even after everyone has a ship.

Which brings me to my #1 gripe in the game ONLY the people who make the object (weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, droid engineers, etc) should be able to repair those items. But that's a topic for another discussion.

One must remeber though that even though aship can be built to a certain level of greatness it can also be complimented by the various components as well as DROIDS. So in order to have the best of the best it will require not just shipwright but other crafting professions as well.

I have feeling the Ship Grinding prof may be a flash in the pan. Call me crazy, but I think it will be a mad rush, a few will stick with it, spacecraft will level off and people will go after something else. My 1/2 cent
