Thread: How does your partnership work?

I'm nearing master scout and have a friend nearing master artisan. We'd like to have some kind of a business partnership where I'll provide resources and he'll craft and sell on the vendor.

What's an agreeable way to make an arrangement like this work? Do we contribute everything we have and split the cash? Or do we just give each other price breaks?

I'd be interested in hearing about other player' arrangements.

that's a good questoin.

i've been wanting to partner up with a smuggler to get him to slice the weapons I make. but the big questions is, how do we both make money. only one of us can sell the final goods, so one of us has to pay for the others service (which is whatI did back in DAoC - tailor and armor smith relationship that is)

i haven't approached smuggler yet, but considering i'd be supplying the weapons and the kits, it makes it a little difficult to know how much to pay. if he charged me full price (or even a discount for having the kit), I'd have to pass the exact cost onto the customer. and the customer just isn't going to be willing to pay that. it's hard to know.

It's not really a partnership in either case, but I think it'll help you.

I have two suppliers and I pay them outright for resources. I like to think I pay top-credit and they're free to work with anyone else. I just think it's tidier to just do an outright buy of resources. I try to give them a day or two heads up on when I'll need something. Since we're regulars, I know I can trust them and vice versa so I don't mind fronting money if they need it for something and if I'm ordering, say, 5000 hides, if they need them for another customer we both know if they give me 500 to tide me over, they won't lose me and I know they'll really have them as I need them.

I'm actually in the opposite situation being the supplier to an armorer. In that I always hold back enough material to make sure I could fill in a small order of 5 or so crates which would give me time to fulfill a full order. And he gets first choice if I have more than one order.

I thought most people like buying their weapons unsliced anyways?

I am currently in a partnership with an Architech and the way we do things with just a general sharing however this is probably because we are very good RL friends. We have since branched out into gathering more partners and have had to negotiate deals with them. Currently the most sound advise I could give you is to negotiate with your partner to ensure that you both profit from the partnersip and make sure you both agree to how things will be handled. Right now we are mostly renting lots and the deals we have made have been to provide 10% of the resources or profits from resource sale back to the person providing the lot. We also provide all maintence and running as well as searching out locations for the harvesters. This works well although it is a bit tedious to determine how much the 10% is and requires a lot of records on our side. I would try to get flat rate per item or quantity of item if possible the math will be easier. The main things is you must trust your partner and they must trust you.

So it's more of a steady business relationship than a partnership. I'm already beginning to think this is a better way to go.

Last night we set up shop and I asked what I could do to help. He needed me to make fiberplast panels. Next thing I know, he's training me in Domestic 1 and I'm grinding panels. This is not what I had in mind since I'm a scout, not an artisan.

I thought I saw a feature on vendors where they can buy items as well as sell them, but your friend might need to have high merchant skills for that, or it might just be broken.

I have a scout buddy that handles most of my resource contacts, runs errands, does pickup and scouts for resources.

then, I have a loose network of people who drop off resources at my resource vendor - I request specific resources and they find them.

Here is how I deal with my partnership. I have a team of about 20 people running placing harvesters and asking me what I need. In return they get any weapon I can make for free and have the abilty to put in special requests for weapons/powerups/grenades, things I do not normally make.

At the same time these also cost money and power to maintain. Any person on my mining team can ask me for creds and I will tip it to them right away. In regards to my network of architects/DE's/Smugglers/Armorsmiths it seems to be a free for all. If someone needs something from the other type crafter they simply ask... if they can do it , it will normally be done for that person on the mining team for FREE.

For me they supply me with resources so I can continue crafting which equals time i DONT have to spend tending harvesters, and THEY get almost anything free. This seems to be the best bet... Raw resources for hard goods if they can be made. And creds on top of that to help fund the repairs to weapons the med costs if damage is taken and planet hopping fees.

What does he get out of the deal? Do you pay him for his resources?

I have a Co-Op of good friends... about 20 and each of us has all their Lots used for harvesters and we are all on the admin lists for said harvesters... We use teamspeak for comms so we just ask for what we need and we move harvesters and get resources... I've finished my Firearms and techniques tree in a mater ofa week due to haveing TONS of materials... We have just taken on a new aritchete and DE.... We don't ask for anythig but loyalty... Everyone gets what they want for free... Not everyone is able to do this as some people are gready but none of us are cept when it comes to getting Xp ans even then we still work out hunting groups so all prosper....

This is the best thing next to sliced weapons I can say....
