Thread: Return of the Miner (Opinion poll)
I think adding a Miner profession would reduce the whining you hear around here about the difficulty of running harvesters. It is easier to encourage artisans to be dependent on an advanced Miner profession rather than on a single tree (14 skill points!) in their own starting profession.
My personal believe IMHO. is yes..
Actually what I would like to see is that anyone NOT a true Miner should be limited to 5 harvesters at a cost of 1,500 a day. Anyone beyond the first tier of Artisan like Droid Eng. or Tailor should be allows 10 haresters at 1,000 a day. Anyone in the NEW special Mining profession, which I would make as an elite hybrid profession after Artisan would allow more then 10 per day at 500 a day. Example would be as follows:
Mining Skill I - allows you 15 harvesters... Mining Bus I cost per harvester is 900
Mining Skill II - allows you 20 harvesters.. Mining Bus II cost per harverster is 800
etc etc. I think you get the drift..
This would really promote someone to be a pure miner and I would cut back on the exploiting of the current ways harversters are done.. I would not allows a Weapons Eng. to have 20 harvesters. This would promote the aspects that Miners do 70% of the mining giving them the option to put their goods on the bazaar for the other Elite Artisan's to buy from. I would even add more skills to the Elite Mining profession that would increase the amout of resouse then can abstract from a location as well.. Maybe have 4 vertical branches in mining..ie. Mining Skill (number of harvesters to be allowed), Mining Business (reducing the cost per harvester) , Mining Survey (ability tosample larger amounts)and Mining Tech. The mining tech branch would be a catch all to add special perks like mining 2 resourses at the same time or whatever..

i would like to see the return of both miner and farmer. i think there is a place for both of these trades. tho it might not appeal to most players there are alot of people that would do this. heck if there was a fisherman trade ill be one. why? because it appeals to me and i have fun with it.
there was talk that miners could sell their resources and create new/better types of metals by incorporating different types of metals to make it more stronger, more malleable, etc. if i remember right, they even said steel shouldnt exist on the planet because steel is created and not natural...
farmers could harvest animals for the long lost milk and eggs like before. they could even get hide materials like wool or something for cloth.
the possibilities are endless
I was devestated that they got rid of the miner... especially since I was in the middle of setting up swgminers.com ![]()

I would like to see it return.
1) I have survey XP sitting around and nothing to do with it.
2) As I move up into the higher professions (namely Architect) I would like to be able to contract out my resource gathering to miners rather than micromanage harvesters when I would rather be running my construction business.
Even unofficially, these recent changes are making it a viable profession. It's becoming harder to gather resources and craft at the same time, so the crafters will outsource resource gathering. I'm already making a pretty good living providing resources to crafters.
As a scout/marksman, I have several advantages over a pure crafter when it comes to resource gathering. I can get to good sites more quickly and more safely than they can. Soon, I'll be able to survive fairly well on the advanced planets and get resources from places that crafters are just scared to go.
A resource turnover can put a big dent in my cash flow, but as long as I keep some good reserves and stay on top of the situation, I can come out of the situation in better shape than I started.
So, that's me: the Combat Miner. If you're interested in a bulk order or long-term contract, contact me in-game. The speculation I have to do drives the prices up, soI'd be able to lower my prices significantly for a guaranteed sale.
They can't kill the class, I am a Miner ![]()
Now if they want to give me more skills, great!
