Thread: Nightsister SHards
The NS shards are segment enhancers. Each segment has one slot that you made add something like a NS shard, janta hide, krayt scale, ect. You would need one for each segment that is going into the armor (assuming you want the full suit enhanced). This can be a fairly significant amount of shards if you are doing this for a suit of composite. For example, the composite chest plate requires 4 identical segments so you would actually need 5 identical serial shards in order to enhance the piece (4 shards for the segments, 1 for the schematic).
I don't know if you are an armorsmith, but here is the breakdown of factory made identical segments for composite armor:
- chest: 4
- helmet: 3
- pants: 3
- biceps: 2 ea.
- bracers: 2 ea.
- boots: 2
- gloves: 1 (this piece doesn't require a factory run so you can and can be handcrafted without wasting a shard).
Hope that helps.
Nope.
Each piece needs FACTORY RUN segments except for the gloves. The segments must have identical serial numbers to make each of the other pieces. So you'll need at -least- one more shard than the entire suit takes, simply for the creation of the schematic to be run in the factory. (note: creation of schematics consumes the resources used to make it, so that shard is used up simply to set up the factory run).
The only piece that you don't need factory identical segments is the gloves.
So it'll take quite a few shards with idential serial numbers to use in the factory run to make an entire suit.
If you're lucky enough to have all segments with the same serial number, you'll only have to toss one into the void to create the schematic for all of the segments.
Well, i have set's of 8, 7 and 5 so i was thinking this: set of 5 for the chest plate...set of 7 for helmet and pants....set of8 for 2 bracers, gloves and 1 bicep....is this correct?

Shards are segment enhancers. Each armor segment has one slot where the enhancers may be added (krayt scales, nightsister shards, ect.). Most of these have no encumbrance, and in the case of the nightsister shard can be used to actually reduce the encumbrance of the segment. These may be added in addition to any layers that you may add to your armor.
There are actual Nightsister layers that maybe be used in the layer slot(s) (ubese has 1 slot, padded 2, composite 3) in place of the normal crafted special protection layers (stun, heat, kinetic, ect.).
As far as negative encumbrance on segments...hmm, interesting question. I am not sure if it would cap out at 1 or 0 or if it would into the negatives. Since the shards are enhancers I would say it's definitely worth it to add them in with other layers since it would allow you to use layers that have heavier base values without suffering the additional encumbrance these would normally add.
