...unfortunately I can't tell you. NDA's and the like. For the time being, you folks are just going to have to make do with the following general statements (which you could probably piece together from other statements on the forums):
1. Yes, there really is a combat rebalance and a fairly extensive plan for it has been developed
2. The changes that are being made are fairly large scale, but will all be good for the game and for character balance.
3. There will be substantial changes to the way armor works- so much so that 80% of the questions/answers on this forum will become obsolete.
4. Armorcrafters will continue to make armor
5. The nature of the armorcrafting profession won't really change all that much
6. Armor will continue to be an important commodity
7. The devs working on this portion of the combat rebalance have a thorough understanding of how armor works and how it can be changed for the better, and are speaking the same language as we are. There's a significant number of long workdays and weekend work ahead of them, though.
I am currently figuring out how to explain the changes in the clearest and most complete way possible. Once the details of the changes become public I will also make sure that there is a thorough discussion of each of them. My own feelings, however, are that you (the armorcrafting community) will like the changes.
This post is probably going to spawn a million questions. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to answer in any but the most general way for the time being, and any dev responses will probably be fairly noncommittal as well. The reason being, of course, that many details will likely change before the combat rebalance goes live.

Maybe you can answer this one... will Comp armor be the only armor worth a darn in the rebalance? Do they plan to balance them so other armors are effective also?

So should armorsmiths start collecting resources for other types of armor in prep for the rebalance?
Good question... will factional armor be craftable? As it stands now, no one wears Marine armor and some folks wear ST armor just for the content.

My understanding is that it will depend on the amount of time the core mechanics take to complete and test. All will be made clear, though, once the new armor system is announced. I wish I could give a clearer answer at this time, but unfortunately that's getting into the details of the new system.
Just so you're aware, if I don't answer a question it's not because I didn't read it. It's because I feel that any answer I give would be releasing more information that I've been permitted to release at this time.

Are they going to make it where the old armor will not be wearable? I mean, we can just make allot of the old stlye sets, and then be ahead of the game with the old uber sets. Are they going to add a new HAM requirement to block this? I am sure you can't answer that, but still I wonder...

Thanks for the post. I understand the reason for the tight lips but appreciate telling us your general feelings about the upcoming changes. I plan on looking forward to when the changes are getting closer and more information is made public.
Keep up on the good work on representing this profession!

Are they going to change any of the resource requirements on the armor?
Specifically, will they be reducing the crippling organics requirements for chitin and padded in order to make them viable products?

Will older "pre-rebalance" armor be rolled back to be in-line with the new "post-rebalanced" armor?
Will there be any new armor types coming out?

Is a less clicking interface in the works, the current crafting system is a little taxing.

How's this for an answer: I had many of the same concerns as you folks do when I walked into the SOE offices on Friday. When I left, I was satisfied that the Devshad a plan for addressing them.
