Thread: Major whiner -- Armor Repair successrate

Ok now i have to let out some steam :

Being Master Armorsmith for quite a while now ive been crafting and repairing Armor pieces since day one.

While i cannot complain bout crafting new pieces its getting more and more frustrating to try to repair armor no matter what condition.

A few minutes ago a friend asked me to repair her comp suit, none of the pieces have been in a bad condition most not even close 60%, we were just thinking its better to repair it while its still decent than to wait until it drops further...

Well here is what i got using an 98.61 repair tool :

2 pieces completely fell apart

1 piece only marginally repaired, condition reduced

5 pieces repaired, condition reduced

1 piece repaired with minor blemishes

Ive experienced this kind of success .. errrr.... un-successrates for the third or even fourth time now and i sincerely think those successrates have to be tweaked.

For now i aint gonna touch any armor pieces again since repairing obviously is totally useless.

If however anyone of you guys has hints or tricks for me in how to find better successrates pls let me know.

I have a guild mate who is relatively new to the game.. and she has "critical failed" everything she has ever tried to repair (something like 5 or 6 items to date) She will now no longer even attempt to repair anything. She was using 99.xx% repair tools at the time.

I also use the same rated tools.. and have destroyed 3 chest plates. EVERY single repair I do on an armor (composite usually) drops the condition by a minimum of 6k, but sometimes much more (pretty much unacceptable failure rate)

On weapons I usually drop condition by about 200 at a time.. again, way to much..

The risk of a complete failure, or such a significant drop in condition is way to high right now. With a 95% or higher repair tool you should be able to get a high quality repair with very little loss in condition almost every time.

Some advice that seems to help me but I have not done any scientific testing...

1. Never repair if you have wounds
2. Never repair in a crowded high ping area
3. Never repair while having armor or a weapon equipped

.. and what Allankyoto forgot to mention

4. Do the crafter voodoo mojo dance

5. Only repair on every second wednesday where there is a full moon

6. Sacrific a left handed, one legged chicken right before the repair.

Honestly, Armor repair is pretty much a joke... been a master for a long time, and have hundreds of entries on my spread sheet that only prove:

1. Expect to lose 1 piece per full suit (average)

2. Expect the rest of the suit to lose 20-30% off max condition (average)

3. Make sure customer fully understands the risk...

On my server, we ran an experiment. A master armorsmith and a noob both tried to repair armor with +100 repair tools. Both had the same number of fails. It's absolutely of no benifit to have a Master Armorsmith try to repair armor. They have the same success rate as everyone else in the game. The same goes for any type of repair. My alt is a master commando, and he repairs his own weapons. As for better chances repairing, gather skill tapes, it's the only way to improve your odds.

I notice a better success rate if I have 0 battle fatigue.

well speaking from not nearly checking my BF / or any of my armor unless its red / and have used mostly 97% ART - I can honestly say I have had no armor fail on me. < KNOCKS REALLY HARD ON WOOD >

Maybe it has something to do witht the armor and its quality from materials that were used to make it. In any case- you would think an ARMORsmith would have the best success rate - wouldn't you!

Shameless Plug - you can pick up ART @

I find being near a crafting station/droid seems to help my repair success. I've failed two pieces so far (comp chest and wookiee legs) and have repaired 100+ pieces of armor. Most of the time I get the 20% condition loss though.

Bad repair success helps bring more business in though . If repair was improved significantly, then tools should cost more than 15 units of metal to make.

Muahahaha. I was a master smuggler and we used to have the exact type of debate and crazy theories about how to get a certain type of slice, or whether or not using better tools affects the slice values. Basically after about a year of hassling the devs for an answer they basically said that nothing affects slicing and its completely random. From my experience as a master armorsmith and the few sets of armor I have tried to repair I would have to say that armor repair seems to be exactly like smuggling. And don't hold your breath waiting for a response from the devs because you will become asphyxiated.
