Thread: Krayt Scales
Are these bugged? I tried using them on some composite glove sets.. When I made the panel.. the exp effectiveness was fine..
But all of the categories "boosted" by the scale.. were now under special effectiveness.. and i couldnt do anything to raise them
So using this "special Item" I managed to make 4% Composite gloves... yay?
yep dem nummers gib me da willys
troll.. seriously.. whats hard to get.. the question Im asking is thus:
I used the krayt scales.. but after that i couldnt do anything to boost the 5 different resistences effected by the sclaes.. they all stayed at 4%..
Is that supposed to be that way?
Heysun.. if you havent used them and dont have a real answer.. please let me direct you to the chidlrens forum where you can discuss how dreamy anakin is
The scales act as a layer, which is to say it is broken. The scale itself does work; but layers do not.
When you add a resistance layer that is a vulnerability or effectivness to a piece of armor currently, it moves that resistance under special protection, but locks it out at the % the segment was. The way the layer is supposed to work, is to move the resistance to special protection, then the resist value goes up as you increase the "experimental resistance" catagory. The benefit of special protections is they raise faster per point of experimentation than a general effectiveness does. Layers were reported fixed on test server, but I never heard a test server armorsmith confirm the fix.
The method of using layers that does work now, is adding a layer of resistance that is already a special protection. When you do that, it just adds the % of the layer to the resist in creation. However, layers are very heavy, even when their encumberance is experiemented way down, and many armorers feel they, and advanced segments for that matter, are currently garbage. Advanced segment and layer use account for alot of the posts you see by people bragging about higher than normal % resists on their armor, unfortunatelky the HAM penalties on the same armor making it unusably bulky. As always, to evaluate a piece of armor, you must consider both the resists it offers, AND the HAM costs of using it.
hang onto those Krayt scales regardless, if the layer fix works out, they will be extremely nice. If you put one of those in, the only effective resistance remaining is restraint (if I remember correctly), and you could move restraint to special protection by installing a restraint layer into one of composite's 3 optional layer slots. For that matter you can install a stun layer too, and end up with a piece of armor special protection to ALL resists, with no effectives or vulnerabilities. You can then experiment up the resistance, and drop the remaining points after you cap out into lowering encumberance. Note that all that theory hinges upon them making layers a feasible encumberance. The scale, though, has the potential to make a superior piece than the krayt segment, especially since you can use the scale in an advanced segment.
While some might consider it a waste, try using that dragon scale on bone or mabari. You will have a piece of armor that has resists to everything but stun like composite but is seriously lighter then composite. It will not have the durability or protection points of composite but it very nice for PVE where you need low HAM cost armor.
I made some armor for personal use - Krayt Bone armor helm, chest and pants for light weight kinetic/energy protection and chitin for the rest since the arms, hand and feet are light anyways. With every segment experimented for encumbrance and the final product experimented for encumbrance, and then a slice for encumbrance, you will have a suit with around 100 HAM for the whole darn thing. You could also use it for PVP if you wanted since the 3 main pieces that get hit by specials have resistance to everythign but stun.
lol, i too have a useless krayt composite helmet. it is restraint btw.
so there are segment drops too? has anyone seen them and if so how does the serial number work (as it isn't crafted, does it even have one and therefore they're all identical anyways?) hmmm.
Segments work like any segment. Usually 6-10 identicals per dragon (if the dragon drops some). Can't mix the serial numbers but still easy to make a suit. Advantage is HAMs are much lower on the Krayt segs, with resists in the 34-6% range. My adv comp is resist 42-5% range but HAMs are 15 units higher across the board.
PEACE
Thank You Ariell, I guess I should have been asking if the Krayt Scales were fixed with layers.. I plan on holding them..
Though I must say, since I have two different "batches" of them and they have different ID Codes.. These really need to be socketable. It would seem right now.. if I want to use them in anything except for gloves, I need to burn one up on a schematic, and do a factory run to get the other 4 turned into panels.. So these scales can only be used for one very nice Chest Plate or a set of Bracers.. ah well..
thanks again
Just wondering if these are good for armor?
I have 8 of them and they say 4% next to each type of protection when examined?
are these any good? and are they worth anything?
cheers!
Actually, at first I thought layers and special things like krayt scales weren't working. What is actually happening, is the final stats aren't displayed until the item is actually created. Armorsmiths, if you don't believe me, make a pair of composite gloves with krayt scales, experiment on the base resists to raise stun up to maxed. If your base is 50%, you will see 48-50% for everything in the special catagory, except for electric which will be higher. Then create the prototype. When its created, the protects will be 4% higher....
So in short, yes, krayt scales do work, and they will raise the protection of your armor by at least 4%. Be warned, since you aren't a crafter you might not understand how schematics work. You have 8 scales, which means you will get 7 armor segments when the smith makes it (if he is successful). For composite:
chest = 4 segments
helm/leggings = 3 segments
gloves = 1 segment
arms/oots = 2 segments.
So the most you could hope for is a breastplate and helm, or breastplate and leggings (with your 8 scales and no failures)
Also, producing 7 segments in a factory will take approximately 42 minutes in a factory...
