Thread: Ubese Question
hi i am a melee type, and currently use padded 39% across the board with a mind cost of 25. I am also a master doc so mind is very important. So my question is - what is the mind encumberence on ubese (chest i guess for comparison) when the ubese has resists of around 70%. Also does the ubesa having sockets affect this.
Thanks a heap for your help guys.
Its really VERY server dependent. On intrepid we have 76% kinetic ubese with a total unsliced suit ham of 328/389/457.A 30% encumb slice on the helm alone (31/35/228) would drop it to (counts on fingers and toes) roughly (21/22/154 ish). You can also ask the smith to specifically experiment down the ham on the helm sacrificing some kinetic ( for us , thats down to 50% kinetic and 186 mind before slicing roughly).
Sockets have absolutely no affect on armor. Sockets are completely randomly placed in armor as well, without any regard to quality or resources. They are just there as facets, to hold on neato attachments![]()

I kind of like your spirit but the "art" of armor crafting will only be realized when encumbrance matters and npcs actually do more damage types than energy and kinetic (Like 99.99% do.). I've got a lot of quality mabari and tantel that just gathers dust bcs only two types of armor are usefull. And to that end, after the first few sets, and a couple of favours for friends and guildies, doing anything better than the standard 70X for ubese and 80 80 70 for comp, just doesn't seem worth it 90% of the time.
I have been making Ubese with the -10 NS shards and the encumbrance is rather nice. 76%kinetic with 217/278/336 total HAM. Since the shards are the common ones, they're easier to find for cheap prices or you might even have people "dump" them on you *chuckle*.
Oh... and my partner has been using the common Rancor segments (the ones which are 12%base) for Padded belts with exceptional condition. The resistance stats on the belts don't matter since they don't protect, but the condition means it will go through more deaths *laugh*. It was a use I wouldn't even have thought. His main is a melee'er and he's only just taken up AS more as a hobby (2nd character), so he was thinking in a different direction. Fresh eyes.

Welcome to the Armorsmith gang. I caution you, however, you will not find many buyers for anything other than Composite, Ubese, and some Padded. A majority of people only want "the best" protection they can get. The minority are the people who are more practical and research the pros and cons of the other various armor types. And an even smaller majority purchase armor for "looks".
Let's put it this way...
200customers want Composite.
50 customers want Ubese
25 customers want Padded
10 customers want "Other"
If you concentrate on Mabari, Chitin or even Padded and gathering all the crazy organic resources needed to produce them (I'm talking about the adv.segments, not the crappy regular segments) You'll go crazy trying to keep up with demand on Composite becuase they will sell out. Trust me. Burnout will happen. Look at Sena. She made every armor and even had the patience to handle custom orders (which included above armor types because she only really produced Composite & Ubese en masse). Where is she now? On extended vacation....
I'm not trying to dissuade you from doing what you want. I'm just offering a warning. There's a reason armorsmiths focus on Composite & Ubese. Since you're haven't been an Armorsmith before, you have no idea the amount of resources you have to track, gathering hides, /tellhell, etc. It's not as easy as it's all cracked up to be. Good Luck!
