Hey guys, I have been thinking of making a crafter for a long time now, and Armorsmith seems like the coolest one to me. I should mention that I am not really concerned with making money as much as I am interested in just trying out a part of the game that is new to me. I am aware you guys are having a lot of "challenges" since the CU, hance this post.

Anyway, I was just wondering, do you enjoy AS? If you were in my position, would you build up an AS business from scratch or try another prof?

Thanks.

Back before CU. My answer would have, hands down. Been yes.

Post CU? No. All the challenge is gone out of it really. There isnt really anything to experiment on so to speak anymore. Just resit and condition. Where as before you had resists, special resists, HAM etc. And being a 12pt AS Really made a hell of a difference.

Hell I barely make armor anymore. Just usually special order and the like now.

I have to agree. I only make custom sets and have an alt to play the game. It is a very tedious grind but if you have the patience you can do it. You do get to meet a lot of people and make some really neat stuff. Just remember that you will need a TON of money to get started.

I love it also, but I grew too fast for my own good and now I'm scrambling to keep up. I get four or so tells even before I load up when I log in! Until I get organized a little better....it's kind of a pain, but that's my own fault.

I almost cancelled my three accounts and called it quits, but I decided to keep my main account and try paying other people to do stuff for me instead of trying to do it all myself. So far I'm happier for it.

If you like surveying and gathering heaps of resources, then armorsmith is for you. I've been playing for more than a year, almost burned out, but I still got excited when a server-best polymer spawned on Scylla this weekend. Your resources are all that determine the quality of your armor, and unlike armorsmithing before the CU, there is a cap on your armor that is relatively easily reached. You'll need good resources to hit it, but they don't all have to be server best.

I'm not sure how I feel once I'm able to routinely cap even my mass produced armor. I don't know if I'll want to continue to stay on top of the resources. But for now, I am still enjoying armorsmithing. I have to: my identity in the game is too tied up in the profession for me to try something else.

I agree the challenge is not that hard nowadays, but it's still pretty fun IMO.

The bugs are what's really killing it now.

If you don't mind hand crafting, AS can get pretty interesting.

Also, I'm a MDE and it's been quite interesting trying to make those stupid droids. LOL

DE is also tedious, but in a different way.

I'm liking both professions.

I do it for cash. It's not fun/challenging anymore but the cash is there. So every now and again i'll throw in a run of this that or the other. I'll hand craft if people ask, and wont charge them any more than a stocked item in whatever colours my factories feel like spitting out today.

I remember when RIS crafting was seat of the pants stuff, critcal fails, super hard to get loot components...now its just another type of battle, just with more condition.

I'd like to have 90 base kinetic mini suits back Those were hard to do. You'd do a run of 100 minis with 70-72 base kin and get maybe 3 or 5 sets hit 90 after slicing. o_O and like 50% of them came back with enc slices which was cool if you grind without buffs. (yes some of us actually did that)

Im really enjoying it at the moment. Fair enough its cost me 150m to buy a whole ton of resources, clothing and a few resource kits...and ive still got to find or wait for some other resources to come into shift, but its keeping me from grinding my jedi and hopefully will be a good source of income to make back what ive spent!

150 million? I have nowhere near that amount of money, jeez.

How much would you guys say I would need in start up cash? Also, I only have 8 lots between my 2 toons, is this enough?

I wouldn't worry about making back what you have spent - armorsmith is by far the most lucrative crafting profession I have tried.

During the first year I had my shop with architect, weaponsmith, tailor, artisan and some buff-pack crafting, I sold for a total of some 50 million (resources were nearly half of that) - during my 3 month period as an armorsmith, I have sold for more than 100 mill worth of armor, and if I had had more time to restock, I could easily have sold for two or three times that amount.

You don't need 150 million. I started up with 5 million and a nice supply of decent-but-not-great resources from a static harv-field.

You could start up by trying to get around 100k of each resource at somewhere between 5-15 cpu, then get more resources when you sell your first suits.

I think, however, that you will need much more than 8 lots. As an armorsmith with amedium-sized operation, I have 20 mobile lots and 13 static wearable factories. Oh, and around 50 static mineral harvesters (that are not really that useful for an armorsmith). 8 mobile lotswould be just about enough for getting decent amounts when the good stuffspawns, but you will probably want to have at the very least 3 factories down permanently - I suggest lot trading for this.
