Thread: Armor conversion in the CU?
The Devs has stated about 101 times that "a good/great item before the CU will be a good/great item after the CU" However, one thing has been gnawing on me about this. See I'm pretty sure my Hammer will still be useful to me if it's "Good" after the CU however I'm looking at my armor inventory...
My character is currently wearing composite. Back at my house I have a backpack full of ... composite. In case of emergencies I have some armor stashed away in my droid ... you guessed it - composite. I have one set of ubese that sits around collecting dust. I think this is pretty typical of any current combat character.
Now I'm looking at the certs for armor in CU and I see ...
Assault Armor
Chitin, Composite, Kashyyykian Hunting, Ithorian Sentinel, Mandalorian (Quest), Rebel Assault (Factional), Shock Trooper (Factional)
Certified to use it: Bounty Hunter, Commando, Squad leader
So it seems to me that if they take the simplist conversion route I and many others will the proud owner of a large quantity of Composite Assault armor that while "good" is totally useless as we will be unable to equip it. If I'm one of the above three classes I'll be buying my armor off the bazaar for a nickel for the next 3-4 months.
While I'm not against the idea of different armor certs per se it looks like it will be a bitter pill for many (certainly not the only one). I'm wondering given the fact the rest of the armor types are essentially non-existent in game that some kind of NPC trade-in like what was utilized for pets in the past might be useful so players could at least get armor they could equip? Has there been any discussion about this I've missed?
Otherwise will have a majority of the player base with no usable armor on CU-Day. While this is might be viewable as an AS gold rush I can't see how Armorsmiths would want 20 rabid players sending them tells demanding new armor on day 1 while there still puzzling thought the significant changes to armor crafting.

Posted this on the Armorsmith forum originally, but it might be better served here as it is an Econonmy issue as well...

I guess - aside from likely losing the use of some of my existing suits of (Composite) armour - I'll also lose the benefit of the Armour Attachments installed in them.
Not that individually this is a big issue (since most of the installed AAs are only +1's) - but collectively they allow me to be speed capped.
As speed capping is sure to be different, they might be a moot point unto themselves (for me), but I do have to wonder - that for those who might have uber AA's installed in say - a pair of gloves, that as this is "part" of a suit of armour (even though it offers no protection and is purely cosmetic) one will not be qualified to wear say, a pair of composite gloves and subsequently benefit from whatever Uber AA they had in them.
This may not be such an important consideration for players whose toons are currently combat oriented - but what about the crafter who ahs n cert to wear the composite gloves that are holding that big experimentation AA?
Anyhow - more food for thought.
I DO hope that there is some sort of conversion system thats going to be set up, so that - lets say for instance - all your toon can use is "Battle Armour" - that you will be able to "convert" your existing Composite into whatever flavour of Battle Armour you want (once/permanently).
yes i was just wondering about this. i have 3 +15's and 2 +10 SEA's all in the on condition ubsese armor bando shirt and mal belt.... i'm not going to be cert'd for any of these post CU. does this mean i loose all 20mil i spent on all those attachments? i sure hope not
I think a lot of the hostility towards the CURB at this point stems from the fact that the players are finding all these concerns about how the new system will affect them and their complaints seems to be met with indifference. There is no consideration of a player's investment into the game in its current form - if it's in the way of the "new vision" it's getting swept aside.
<sarcasm> If we lose something important to us we can always buy/loot a another one right?</sarcasm> Trying to keep an open mind but there are a lot of concerns to address and May 5th will be here very soon.
