As a relative newbie, I'm not sure which type of armor to buy. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of what type is better? Any help would be much appreciated.

This is posted somewhere else called "Guide to Armor" but I will cut and paste it here for you in case you can't find it.

SWG- Armor
By: Kyckyer

Tantel Armor
- base armor unknown
- bonus unknown
notes: i have never seen the stats show up on this type of armor, and as it is the protective values of this type of armor seem to offer nothing and it is purely cosmetic. i've used it before and it seemed to do nothing at all for protection. this is not confirmed however, just my suspicions from past experiences.

Padded Armor
- base armor of 15
- bonus vs explosive weaponry [rocket launchers, grenades, etc]
notes: somehow this type of armor switched places with bone armor in terms of its base protective value, and now holds a base armor oddly enough comparable to chitin armor. i think this may be some kind of mistake though [padded is now better then hard bone, and an equal to chitin?] but i am not sure.

Bone Armor
- base armor of 10
- bonus vs energy weaponry [blasters, carbines, rifles, etc]
notes: i like the look of bone but its usefulness has dropped considerably [for me] after the last change to armors. it used to be on par with chitin armor in terms of its base defensive value and but its focus of defense geared towards ranged warfare [energy] where chitin focused on melee [kinetic] defenses. i think the devs may have mixed up padded armor and bone armor defensive values.

Chitin Armor
- base armor of 15
- bonus vs kinetic weaponry [swords, polearms, axes, etc]
notes: the king of tank armors, in my opinion. it gives the best added protection vs kinetic [physical] attacks and isn't as cumbersome as the composite armors. it doesn't, however, protect you as well in fire fights as bone or composite armor, but, i find that [as a guess] roughly 85% of my fights are done in melee anyways.

Composite Armor
- base armor of 20
- no bonus
notes: composite armors murder regen rates and offer no extra special protections. however, composite armors seem to always protect better all around vs shock and wounds, more so then any of the other armor types. the regeneration rate cuts are steep, and the focus costs to equip an entire suit are heavy as well, but the time you can stay in the field without going home to heal up shock and wound damage seems to be slightly longer in the composite armor.

Storm Trooper Armor
- base armor of 30
- no bonus
notes: right now this pretty much rebel exclusive armor [how ironic] since it can only be taken off storm trooper npcs, and only rebel factioned players can attack storm troopers. st armors are pretty much like a greater form of composite armor, it offers unparalleled raw defense [with the armors currently available so far] but offers no added bonuses. much like the composite suits st armor also requires a hefty amount of focus to wear, more so then composite, and kills regen rates even more so then composite as well.I]This has been fixed and is Imperial Only now, as far as I know[/I]

Riot Armor
- base armor unknown
- bonus unknown
notes: i saw this armor as a bug long ago floating in mid air at the city of wayfar on tatooine. this is the only reason i know it exists. i was not able to inspect it, but i was able to examine it as an environment object. all the parts that i saw where body part specific, much like all wearable armors, so i am under the assumption that it may be useable at some point.

What is the best armor?
The absolute best armor combination [in my opinion] is chitin legs, chest, and helmet with composite everything else.
why?
composite offers the best wound and shock defense from what i've seen, and chitin is a close second. with this armor config all your major body parts [head, torso, legs] are protected with the best melee armor-to-regen-ratio armor, chitin, and the rest of your minor parts are protected with the all around best wound and shock negating armor, of which are also body parts that don't effect your regen rates as much as the big three.

Thanks! However, does all this apply if I'm a Marksman/Scout? Seems to be referring to Brawlers...

The armor descriptions apply for sure. You just have to figure out what will work best for your character. Just don't pay attention to the best armor combo as he states at the bottom. That IS just for a brawler.

sor what I figured out about armor is this.

First armor has an armor rating of0-4. a weapon with an armor rating 1 will hurt somone with 1 armor at full damage but will hit for reduced damage if the weapon has an armor rating of 2 or more. also armors have special protection againgst stuff like kinetic(melee), energy(pistols and guns), etc. (please corect me if any of this is wrong).

here is what I don't get- do players have armor ratings more then 1 or is it just npc?

from what I gather from this info that I have, a carbiner would want to have an armor that has an excellent energy rating and a decent kenetic rating. so what kind of armor fits the description. Oh and again please correct me if anything is wrong.

I am a carbiner and I am looking for a good armor but I don't really know how to tell what is good and what is not.

Rich,

Check out the 'Armour Guide -v 1.1' http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=armorsmith&message.id=2691written by Sinfoxx. This is the best, most comprehensive view of armour I've yet seen. This should put everything into perspective and explain the various qualities of armours.

1. Is it true wearing armor reduces the AP on whatever weapon your using to light?

2. I heard you need to have secondary stats above your min = to what the encumbrances are on armor to wear them. For example if my secondarys were 400 and the armor had 100 encumbrance I would need to reaise my stats by 100 to wear it. Is this true?

3. What is the best armor in the game? I heard its composite made with krayt tissue

Hey Guys!

I'm a master Asrmorsmith on Chilastra (server not inportant for the questions) and I was wonderign a few things.

1) Do you wear armor If Yes what type?

2) What's most important Resists or reduced encumberance? Or more importantly what would be the right combination?

3) I have made some experimental armor with 20-25% Encumebrance reduction (large pieces) and about 30-35% with smaller pieces(pre-sliced) but the resists have dropped from 40% to 25%. Does this have any appeal to you?

example: Chest piece M:244, A:72, M:36 for a typical piece, reduced to M:190, A:52, M:23.

4) What's the ideal armor for you guys? Armor Type/Resisitance/Layers included/HAM.

5) Do you want a maxed Heavy Maxed Resist armor and then have it sliced. If you had a set that was all encumberance sliced 30%+ are you willing to pay up to 2-4X the price?

6) Anything else that might be important?

i have around 41% composite but i only equip helmet boots gloves and chestplate. this seems to work well and leaves lots of cool styling options open...if that matters. encumberance is normal as far as i know
