People tell me not to share this but I see so many struggle with it.

Heres how I get 3 special Comp, I am a 12 point smith but I know 10 point smiths that get these results

80% Kinetic 80% Energy 80% Electric 70% Base

ok 1st off I get 2 Kinetic layers I experiment them thusly,

1 point to special so then I have 5% special to Kinetic I then put all the points to Quality, I max this line out I keep experimenting the layer till I get an amazing on this so I get an extra 7% I dont experiment 1 box at a time I do 7 at a time on this line and I Usually end up with extra point for durability but a 10 point will be able to max this line. Now before you say anything yes quality of materials does matter, for example before experimentation my lines start out at 23% 28% 28% When done experimenting I have 30% 91% 35% which give me a layer of 4% base 5% Kinetic and around 305 condition and 13/13/13 HAM. (Im going off these numbers from memory)

Ok then so I make 2 schems just like this for the Kinetic

Next I do an evergy Layer I make it this way

On special I experiment 5 points, but I only get 9% so I experiment on it till I get amazing and then I get 10%, remember I do 5 points at 1 time. Now this gives me 7 points remaining so some folks will have a hrd time here, but if you spend the rest of the points on base and try for that amazing you will get it to 4%.

So no this layer is 10% Energy 4% base with 15/15/15 HAM

Ok So now we have 3 layers all to gether 2 Kin and 1 En, now when we make the seg it will most likely start out at 20% base maybe 19% and then 8% Elec 10% Kin 10% En, all depends on the materials. So now I max my base to 34% I have hit 70% base with a 33% segment but it was probably around 33.8% in actuality. I always hit 70% with a 34% segment. Ok next I put one point to special to bring elec up to 10%. Heres where most new smiths get confused, they think they need to max there special out to get it maxed out, yes to a point thats true but only depending on your materials. If you spend a bit more time getting the best materials n your server your results will be better than you expected, with the best materials the only thing that will separate you from 12pt smiths is HAM. Ok back to this so now we have a 34% 10% 10% 10% segment. If you have any points left over toss them on the durability, I always try for an amazing when maxing out the base sometimes you will be maxed but it looks like you have 1 more point to put in, most of the time its only gonna give you .1% so its a waste. When you make alot of these you will know your cut off points. The reason for the 10% is because your special on the segment will always be 10% higher than your base when you make your armor. So with 34% base segment you get 70% so you get 80% specials. I make the Elec on the seg 10% so I dont have to waste a point on it for final assembly.

So for final assembly I experiment on quality 7 points at one time and then more but make sure you have atleast one left over for durability so when you exp on that your special will catch up to where it needs to be. Im sure Comp wasn't meant to be crafted this way but thats how it is, Ive also found that padded oeas the same, I currently get 80% Kinetic with 51% base for padded.

I Introduced this type of armor to my server a while back called it corvette assault armor so thats where the term has been coming from. I t has now become the grind armor of choice.

Some of you are thinking how can I waste materials like that hoping for amazings. Well I actually dont waste that much, I experiment ina city with research facility as a city function and I use bespin port, yes it does work I see noticable results, especially when I get 5 amazings on one segment in a row. I always use Pyolian cake when assembling, I have never had a cristical failure on assembly when I use this. Same for bespin port I ahve never gotten less that great when using it.

I had recently posted my 4 special armor with 80% to 4 specials and 70% base, but that is an entirely different beast.

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=75686

I am willing to share my ideas on it, but for another time maybe.

I hope this helps alot of you out. Maybe now some of oyu will focus on getting the best materials 1st, then worrying about those 2 extra points.

If I have made an error here please point it out so I can fix it and clarify.

I posted this in another post but some might not see it. So....

Very informative, but here's my question: Why?

With your resources and exp pts you could easily make 60s base armor, whichunslicedwould have lower HAM than this stuff with an encum slice, and could eff slice well over 80% to all resists.

My answer is 90% of the armor customers dont care about HAM, since everyone is always buffed. This is what makes me my money, And I cant make the stuff fast enough I sell out of 90 suits in 2 days on average. For my personal armor I like my HAM low, but then I usually makemy personal stuff with loot drops.

I know lots of people make several different types of armor, and Im kickinng around the idea of using lower end materials to make less expensive armor, but I see these smiths burn out so fast. I'll stick with what sells, my 77% ubese and my Corvette Assault Comp. With the stuff like this it doens't rot on my vendors since its high demand, the stuff that rots on my vendors is the low encum armor. Thats why I dont slice my armor, though if I did I could sell the super sliced stuff for insane markup, but then the other stuff just rots and wastes my materials.

if they don't care about ham, then they'll want heavy armor with effect slices to break past the 80% barrier, maybe hit 90%. You're just hurting the 2 most important resists by putting them in special protections, thus making them unsliceable.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it

it probably sells better, because most of the people buying it aren't smiths, and don't understand all the details on how it works/how slicing works. they just see "special protection" and 80%... and decide this is better. I'd think the same way myself if I didn't lurk in here. =)

there is also the mentality that if you buy this armor ... even though the specials aren't sliceable, you KNOW they are going to be good, instead of risking getting an enc slice on a 70% piece that already has a low enc... when what you wanted was higher protection for these particular area's.

Just different viewpoints really, both lines of thought make sense to me. Nice to know that some smith's specialise in one fashion of making it, while other's swear by a different product. Good to have these choices as a combat class.

Just my 2 cents, and I'm pretty new to the game (1 month as of this post) and don't have any experience in crafting... so my word doesn't mean to much here.

I don't think that many people have ever thought about that, myself included. By making more resists fall into the special category they are excluded in the smuggler slicing process? Only the base resists get sliced is my take on it, although I barely ever wear any armor so this is all new to me. I do happen to have a full set of Kin's armor and I must say that it is really nice, I was lucky enough to get the most important pieces sliced to 87% base. HAM cost means nothing to me when I have a surplus of mind food and buffs are easy to obtain, but of course unbuffed my zab can never wear this suit. Anyways keep up the great work Kin and I hope that the above poster has shed some light on this subect to the rest of us.

ahhhh.......I should have waited two minutes longer on my above post hehe........thx! I am one of those types of people that you have mentioned in the above starting paragraph, but I am trying to educate myself on reading all of the different profession forums to learn how the rest of the classes craft my uber gear that allows me to kick butt all day long.

two special resists is really a waste IMO

I'm a 10 pt armorsmith, & I can hit 71 - 72% base. I tell my customers to hope for a good slice.

you know even people that know all about armor and the resists still like to have high specials or lots of emor what have you since alot dont even bother with slicing. But hey to each his own. Im currently getting ready to sell 80% Elec with 70% base. Have had very positive response for it so we'll see.

My 80%Kin/80%Energy armor was the fastest selling bactch of armor I ever sold. 45 suits in less then 24 hours.

When its sliced either the base will go up or the encum goes down but they still have 80/80 resists.

If you make a light weight 60%ish base set which I have before, yeah you can slice it up to 90% but its a chance...

80/80 is what they buy and no matter the slice its good either the encum goes down nicely or the base goes up so it works.

We know how the stuff works but that doesn't mean anything just make what the customers buy.

Too many times I get into a 30minute lesson in armor

impossible to get 90% base from a slice of a normal 60% as slicing effectiveness is capped at 35% so @ 60% would bring it up to 81%.

66% base will get you just under 90% base with a maximum effectiveness slice.

I've seen 65 base with around 540ish ham for a full suit of heat layered stuff here on Valcyn. An average eff slice (around 25%) will get kinetic and energy both over 80% as well as every other resist, and still have total ham lower than a full suit of your 80% energy/kinetic stuff with average encum slices (I'm guessing total HAM on your suit is the 8-900 range, so an avg of 30% enc reduction brings it around 600). So it's stupid to say that this is good armor for encum slices.

By the same token, effect slices are completely wasted on your armor, since the 2 most important resists aren't affected.

It looks like nice armor unsliced, which I presume is why people buy it. But with a little considerationfor the role a smuggler plays in the finished product, it becomes obvious that this is vastlyinferior armor.

I'll stick with my heavy electricity layered armor, which has lower HAMs than yours, and85-90% resists on all pieces, to all damage types (except elec and stun, of course).

Nice set. I've recently had similar orders.

I'm thinking about going ahead and running a bunch of segments to see how they sell.

I agree with many about the slicing. I make electric layered stuff for myself...1 heavy, high resist comp set and 1 light set. Some of my friends prefer it as well. No point in making a bunch of stuff that doesn't sell though.

Just did an order for 80energy/80heat/80elect. I need to ask the guy why he wanted that set up.

btw...nice base. I'm getting around 67-68 on these. Those extra points really pay off for this type of setup.
