Thread: What is the best PVP recon armour?

Will 8k energy resist armour = abt 4k kinetic resists?
Yes, it will be down around 4k with the 8k energy resist.
Just curious, I'm new to the CU, but why would you want to max out energy at the expense of kinetic?
Is that because of Jedi?
What if you weren't ever fighting Jedi....wouldn't you want more balance, or to even move toward kinetic (because you can add a PSG)?

I concur Rikilii- there is no "best" anything. Plenty of rangedand melee weapons are Kinetic base, and as such I can't agree that maxing aRecon suit with Energy is the best solution. If he's hunting Jedi, then sure, it's the right fit. If he's doing general PVP, then his opponents using Kinetic damage are going to have a field day with him.
Perhaps Primus layers or even Kinetic layers, if you don't have a Battle cert, are more appropriate for your needs. Depends on what you want to do, and what you are "certed" for.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to get up to speed very quickly on making Faction armor for our project on TC, and I wasn't even planning to bother with layering. But perhaps I should consider trying a few types of layers.

Mostly because of Jedi, yes. In truth though, you are right. I more balanced approach is better for more general gameplay as there is still a lot of kinetic in this game and the fact that you can add a PSG, (though it does NOT help against energy melee like a lightsaber). These full energy recon suits are usually just "jedi suits".
My bad, I was only thinking Jedi since that is what most of the requests I get are for.
I totally agree, for a general PvP experience you want a more balanced suit, and for this I think Primus layers is the better option. For Recon you might expect something in the region of 5550/7550/5450 (again server dependant). Elemental damage takes a small hit, but energy/kinetic protection is still a lot more important.
This actually gives you more "value for money" compared to kinetic or energy layered suits. Due to diminishing returns, you get more additional protection in total from primus layers than you do from the others, example:
Capped basic suit 5000/7000/6000 has a protection of 42.5%/52.5%/48% , in total 143% (don't get too hung up in this figure, it is just to illustrate the point and has no meaning otherwise)
Energy layered suit 4000/8000/6000 has a protection of 36%/56%/48%, in total 140%
Primus layered suit 5550/7550/6000 has a protection of 45,6%/54,5%/45,1%, in total 145,2%
I am a big fan of Primus layers but have gotten tired of trying to educate my buyers, so I just give them what they want ![]()
