Thread: Merchant Nerf and Armorsmiths

Well, I am sure many or some of you have heard of the Merchant Nerf coming soon. I haven't seen the Dev post that proves it, but there are numerous posts on the subject in the Merchant Forum. The Nerf isn't actually a Nerf, it is supposedly fixing a bug to disallow vendors that crafters don't have skill points for.

This fix is going to kill me, and I believe it will be hurtful to many Armorsmiths AND ESPECIALLY THEIR CUSTOMERS. Right now I have 5 vendors- 1 Ubese Vendor, 2 Comp Vendors, a Belt/Shirt Vendor, and a Loot/Misc vendor where I sell NS enhanced stuff and other stuff. I admit I don't have the skill points to maintain these vendors. I don't see this as an exploit, after all, I can't change the ad barking now, I can't change uniforms, and I can't change around the vendors if I want.

Look, I play this game to have fun. I craft armor because I like to make cool stuff, and then I like to go out and hunt, and fight. Master Merchant does not make this game any more fun for me. I would much rather Master a combat prof than load vendors for people. I actually couldn't think of anythingLESS fun than loading vendors.

If and when this change is implemented, I will choose to have fun instead of sitting around all day loading vendors. My customers will have to look through one big orange clunky vendor, through 400 pieces of armor and try to pick out what they want. Sorry to my customers in advance.

Some may flame for not being a"legitimate" merchant and that this is the way it was supposed to be in the first place Well again, when faced with the decision to keep 60 skill points locked up in Merchant or don't, I chose what seemed to be an obvious answer: "don't."

And believe me, this effects Armorsmith much worse than other profs. Our product has 9 or 7 pieces in a full suit, so it takes 7 to 9 times longer to load vendors and7 to9 times as much space on a vendor.A weaponsmith's product is 1, really no other product consists of multiple pieces. So I have to go find a Merchant now who wants to load 200 pieces of armor every week and keep track of the financial data.

If I was a Merchant, I would be upset actually. I mean I hate loading my own vendors, I would hate loading vendors for other people too!

My personal solution:

I might drop Master AS, get a few moreSEAs to get +15 Armor Exp (for 9 Exp Points) and just make Ubese as a way to fund my other stuff. It should be easy enough to pick out on a singlevendor.

Sorry Bloodfin, say goodbye to the cheapest 70 base Comp around...

Would you like it if after mastering AS I decided to drop it but still have the ability to craft armour?. Being a merchant allows you to have vendors, not being a merchant then you should lose the ability to use them just like dropping AS you lose the ability to craft armour.

I welcome this change. I'm a master armorsmithand master merchant. Vendors were never supposed to work this way to begin with, so any benefits received up until this point were unintended. If people want the benefits of multiple vendors, etc. they'll have to *gasp* invest in the merchant skills.

You shouldn't have abilites from classes or boxes you gave up. Do you think it would be fine if you could master a combat class and then drop it, but still have the moves and benifits?

This is a tough one... I myself did the the same thing, setup venders then drop merchant as many have. But in all fairness to people who want to be a merchant and resale stuff, I guess the fix is only right.

One thing I would like to see the Devs do for merchant is allow them to rent out there venders, like create a vender and set a percentage they get from every sale, that way they could make the vender, thengive it to someone to use and would collect like 2% of all sales or something like that. And the person who got the vender could resupply it himself. Similar to how candy vending machines work in offices, they rent/lease them out.

Just a thought....

Right I get it. However, if Merchant is going to be changed for the worse, how about some changes to vendors:

1) a way to give a percentage of sales to Merchants automatically

2) a way to give admin rights so someone can load their own stuff

With those 2 simple changes, Merchant would rock and I could see some people just being a merchant with no crafting skills for a way to earn creds. They could place a vendor for someone , dress them up and sit back while the loot rolls in. Hell, I'd be a Merchant in that case.

What they are doing now is just stupid. So take this scenario:

In order for me to keep my business as is without giving up skill points I have to:

a) make a run of 40 Composite Armor suits (that's 360 pieces)

b) bring this to my slicer who has to unload all 360 and put them in packs on my new Merchant friend's vendor - keep in ming our inventory is what, 60, so u'd have to take several trips between the smuggler and merchant and merchant to vendor

c) the Merchant has to decide on price, and somehow keep track of what is sold on a spreadsheet or something

d) the Merchant now has to load 360 pieces of armor onto 3 different vendors, noting price changes for the quality of slice

That's the easy part

e) every time an item is sold, that Merchant has to stop what he/she is doing and annotate it on the spreadsheet. I can imagine in busy Malls, a merchant won't have time to do much else.

This is not fun for anyone involved.

I guess another option is for me to get Merchant back and drop my other skills. That's cool, I'll spendmy time and money hanging around my shop and chatting it up with my vendors.

Armorsmiths are interdependent enough already, We need components from tailors, electronics from Artisans and slicing from smugglers. We don't need any more.

I think there's alot of things (renting out vendors being a major one) that would allow the merchant profession to become fun. Like, instead of having to unpack crates (this isn't my idea, I forgot who's it is, but good thinking on their part), you could just load the crates and mark a price for the individual pieces. Then the unpacking of the crate would happen as the customer bought the pieces. All of a sudden you have 50 items on your vendor instead of 500.

Tons of other cool stuff that they could be doing which would have a much more positive influence on the game than revoking vendors. I mean, we have to split stuff up on several vendors because many customers have trouble finding what they want because the categories are all borked up.

I dunno... don't want to rant, but I see the OP's point.

I'm a master AS, Master Merchant, and I enjoy the benifits of all the reduced fees I have and being able to throw out a vendor every now and then.

No, this argument is stupid, and I'm tired of hearing it.

I trained as a merchant to hire the vendors, taught them accordingly and left it at that. I can no longer change their ad barking, their names, register them, create new ones, etc.

Having to waste SP on merchant is just stupid. This change better not go into effect.

Ok, devs say the economy is bad, maybe they should put more focus on the merchant profession. I mean, having to list 100 items individually when you want them all set at the same price... it's more like work than anything else.

And how difficult would it be to take empty vendors off the map? Merchant stands to benefit as much as or more than any other proffession out there. If the profession is so fun, why does everyone drop it?

Personally I just hope they give us a chance to take stock out before they disappear. I have 2 npc's and no longer have artisan. I'm hologrinding, but I'm eventually going to go back to armorsmith/merchant, so I just hope that in the meantime I get to take back my inventory until i can grind it back up. It's a good change, I just hope that they give us AMPLE warning.. because I fear my 250+ items on the vendor will go poof really soon, especially since it's in a pa hall with 250 items....

I think it was something that needed to be fixed long ago, doing it now might end up screwing and pissing off a lot of people. I just hope they give everyone fair warning. That being said, I think it is a change that is needed. The current state of vendors is obviously not the way it was intended. But I also think the merchant prof. needs a whole revamp as dealing with vendors is usually very tedious and time consuming. I was reading through the merchant forums the other day and there are many good ideas there. I hope the devs pick up on some of them.

I suppose this is a neccessary "nerf", but damn do I wish we got more out of merchant then a handfull of vendors. The whole class is such a huge waste of skill points it's sad .

To run a shop any crafter is forced to take merchant (or parts of it), why is it combat characters arn't forced to take scout to be effective? With vehicles and mounts, and the ability to call things without a camp scout has been eliminated as a must have proffession.

Sometimes I wish they'd do the same with crafters and merchant, I'm tired of wasting my skill points in it.
