Thread: The Armor Resource Changes

I understand if SOE feels the need to balance combat. I also understand if they want to make other changes to the game to make it "fairer" or "more fun".

Whether or not I agree with each and every change is immaterial.

But regarding the drastic changes to the resources required in making armor: has anyone heard or been privy to a discussion regarding why this was necessary?

It certainly does not increase ingame fun, or make combat more balanced.

It makes many people, like me, who have an armorsmith account (Roze Khara, Sunrunner) very unhappy because we feel as if the hours and hours we spent collecting and purchasing resources for the past year was a total waste of time. I have been on Tesetcenter several times, and the following realization has me shaking my head:

AFTER A YEAR OF PLAYING SWG, GRIDNING AS AND COLLECTING RESOURCES, AS OF TODAY, I AM INCAPABLE OF CRAFTING A SINGLE PIECE OF ARMOR.

I simply do not have all of the resources in my inventory.

I am dying to hear any explanation that folks have come accross. How can this even be possible ina game that only exists because of the continuity that SOE has implicitly promised us by taking our money each month? When a fighter logs into the new SWG, he or she is offered a chance to "respec" his skills. Why are we AS not offered the chance to respec our resources? Are we truly offered nothing...no recourse...in this situation?

Perhaps I will be offeredmy money back from the months of progress that have been destroyed? Is this possible? If it is, I might consider continuing to be a loyal SWG subscriber. I mean this sincerely.

Forgive the semi-rant, but has anyone gotten a decent explanation as to why all the armor resource requirements were changed, one that might help to calm my ire?

Thanks in advance,

Roze, Master AS (at least i used to be able to make armor)

We've been complaining about it for weeks. No good, reasonable explaination has been given.

You know, I was one of those people that still had hope before the CU went live that they would change the resource requirments. Looks like I was proved completly wrong.

Going to be hard for me to log...

well apologies for brigning up something that has alreadybeen discussed, but don't you think that the expectation of a full answer is fair, just and within our expectations as people who have entered into a monetary contract with SOE? If the board has been talking about this for weeks and no answer has been heard, then perhaps the message needs to reach a higher level contact at SOE: one who is not so foolish as to think that by simply ignoring people and their questions will a problem go away.

The lack of contact and communication between SOE and we players is quite simply mindblowing, and borderline negligent. I would imagine that whoever is responsible for this is hiding such behavior from their superiors, because Sony is a publicly traded company and this type of corporate irresponsibility towards its customer base would certainly be of interest to Sony's shareholders, to the point of enfuriating them to a level unacceptable to the highest higher-ups at Sony.

Not to sound harse, but we've all "been there, done that" at this point. But please feel free to pursue any avenues you feel are appropriate.

Well, as much as it hurts to say it. The only way they will see our point of view and listen to usis through the massive loss of revenue through account cancellations. I for one will give it (1) week. That is (7) days. I will explore and work to reinvigorate my characters inside the CU. If by the end of that week (MAY 6th) I feel less than satisfied. I will cancel my last two accounts.

HEHE, my wife would love that. Wait a minute....she has been on the phone alot lately, is she working with SOE????

No worries about sounding harsh. It takes more than that to flap the generally unflabppable me

Perefectly understood that you all have been there and done that. My points, then, are two:

1. You may have tried to receive such infor from SOE, but in fact you have not. Does this mean you should admit failure, or try harder? I vote for the latter.

2. While I am not an SWG noob, I am relatively new to these forums. Could you apprise me as to whom you have spoken, and to whom is still available? Certainly in order to reach a person who will sit on the phone or correspond over email, one would need the help and participation of the more experienced forum regulars. But it certainly can be done: consider this to be the second wave.

(BTW, Ibelieve this can be done for the following reason: we would not be asking for product change or special benefits. We would simply be asking for an explanation, which would be considered nothing more than a show of CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am sure that the folks at SOE themselves would tell you that customer service is a reasonable request by its paying customers...again, to bring up the shareholders, I'm sure they woudl be interested to know if any of Sony's clout-wielding employees was not interested in providing customer service at any given time...a simple letter to investor relations would accomplish that task, moreso if it were signed by a number of SWG regulars.)

Again I am not asking for anyone to undo the CU. I'll play as it is, and if and when I can't stand it any more, I'll stop.

But the expectation of a rational explanation for some of these changes is perfectly natural, and this is an issue that will be resolved at some point.

My bet is ithat it involves someone having to admit that they made a mistake int he manner in which they implemeneted the CU, and a head or two rolling. But we shall see...I've certainyl been wrong before.

I feel exactly the same as you do, and i've spoken to many other Armoursmiths who do, i just couldn't be bothered to take things further as i feel it's a lost cause trying to get this changed, or anything for that matter, when SOE are involved. They just don't seem to listen to what the peopleplaying the game day-in-day-out think. Do they play the game at all!?!?!??

We have an Armoursmith correspondent (who's name escapes me, check out the stickies) who has contact with the "higher powers" i beleive, try contacting him and he should be able to shead some light on what you seek.

I won't make a single piece of armor. I don't need to make armor for credits. I made it because it was fun to make that next "better" item. Right now I'll have to spend months just collecting the resources to make the basics... let alone premium quality stuff. The CU trashed our profession. Ah, but let's not let our forum turn into a mess! I swear, I'll just keep my mouth shut right there.

i'm guessing everything is changing so that everyone is on a equal playing field going forward at this critical time

  • they are releasing the ROTW expansion

  • Episode III movie is coming out

  • obviously, they are expecting a lot of new customers

if those customers joined the game and found out it would take a year to collect the resources to compete with you... well, they might quit (ie fewer new accounts)

Guess what.... it still will. And now that there is no variety in crafted armor there is no niche for an up and coming AS to fill.

Actually Blix said he was an AS and funded a city off the profits. However, even a large city with research etc is maybe 500k per cycle so really this isn't saying much. Based on his design choices I would say that while he played an AS, he didn't truely understand being an AS.

Two of the reasons suggested as to resource changes.

1- Because Docs would need less organics the responsibility of making the ranger skill of hunting useful is now ours. So its to make it fair and fun for scouts and rangers....

2- Some of the new resources I have heard said have built in limits on the stats they can have. Thus automatically keeping armors from ever reaching pre CU stats.

Dont know how true number two is but number one was stated somewhere in a nicer way. But still basically we are being given the financial hardship to support another profession. In the long run things will balance back out, prices may be settled upon etc but in the meantime, yeah, try and make some armor....
