Was just going through past posts to see for myself....
These are all direct quotes (I took out the authors'namesbut they all are from the sandbox testers):
"Okram is doing a good job.
We justcant share any information from the CU alpha as we signed non disclosure agreements.
As a matter of fact you must trust in us 5 to get the CU right in view of armorcrafting."
"I can assure you that armor post CURB is going to be GOOD, the alpha testers, all 6 of us (counting me) have had nothing but praise to say about them. This should give you guys a sign to breathe easy and know that we indeed have a hand in making sure that armor will be good post CURB"
"I don't have many concerns and I have read all the CU docs
just remember, if it's good now, it will be good after the combat upgrade"
just remember, if it's good now, it will be good after the combat upgrade"
"because, changes are coming, the changes are really good"
"Have faith in Team Armadillo.
We will not steer our profession wrong "

I believe theywere not been informed of some of the most critical changes, like simplifying the experimentation or change in resource requirements.

That puts everything in perspective. Armor will r0x0r j00r b0x0rs but every nub smith from here to hell will make the same quality stuff a Veteran AS can. YAY!

There were some major changes that were made half way through the process, so you are looking at an old quote based on old information. At that point in time it appeared as if 12 point smiths were still be viable and no information about resources were given. So team armadillo was just as much surprised as everyone else about the sudden fall of armorsmith.
Keep in mind Tyrant and JustG, the old director and producer of this game are no longer working on this game. A lot of internal changes took placed that they did not share with the alpha team or public at large. We still do not know the full story. The direction this game went in seems to have also changed. The alpha testers did not make the design changes, they did not code any thing. They only provided some feed back on some limited documentation. I think you may be giving the alpha testers too much credit for their part in this whole processes. Team Armadillo simply did no steering as they were not at the wheel.

From what I understand from one of the other cors that was in "alpha" is they never actually logged on an tested anything. "Alpha" consisted of document review. After that it was "thanks for helping with alpha testing. Open beta starts next.".
Seeing the quality of the product released on day one of the open beta, I believe it. So while there was an alpha team, it seems they never got to see/do anything in-game.

I will wait for Okram to post without going into too much
but I will say, that a lot of the info they gave us left us with more questions than answers, and many of those questions to this date have never been answered, and are the questions splattered across our AS forums

I can't techincally say anything about what happened in alpha "testing" phase (I use that term rather lightly) as it is still under protection from the NDA. I however will not say what monroe said is false.
The things I thought where good, where good when I was asked. But as we see now my opinions of the current beta is something I don't think is good.
I hate having to beat around the bush, but I have to

Having been in software development since the 80's and having been a consultant since '91 I can say that I have worked for a lot of different management styles. One style is milestone or date driven. This seems to be SOE SWG management's style. Part of that may come from restrictions placed on them from Lucas. Given the size of this release and the intergration nightmares it involves along with the Ep. 3 date coming I can understand the agressive testing schedule.
There is a saying however that deals with this type of date driven releases... "you want it bad, you get it bad."
The best we can do now is organize a list of concerns and try to get the questions answered and the issues resolved. For me the biggest issues are the 12 point nerf and the resource requirements. But look what happened to to Shipwrights. In JTL beta there was one set of resources. They changed in live. /CrossesFingers

Yea, I would look at Okrams posts since beta started if you want the most hints. In some he is udderly shocked. In others he is lobbying for change (the OQ/SR for example)
I think all involved have represented you all the way you would have wanted us to, and are still pushing for changes to make this work

Agree on their style. There is a truism in software development that exist in most things in life.
You can have it cheap and good, but not fast.
or you can gave it good and fast but not cheap.
or you can gave it fast and cheap, but not good.
I would say their style tends to be the third one.

Completely off topic.... My DSL is down so I'm forum surfing (on dial-up) and listening to Nickelback until it just feels wrong.
