Thread: I've got bad news...
This also means, I am done swinging my Pike for Good on Bria.
.
This means I probably won't ever get to have any excellent droids.

kinda like the one I have built, but seperate. I could go the Dell (or something similar) route, but seriously, I don't have 2k laying around to drop on a new PC.
Tho I might be able to justify a laptop one of these days...
Hey, who knows, maybe my character will still be here.

For instance, an eMachine minitower, Athlon 64 3200, 512MB RAM, 160GB HD, with a PCI-express x16 slot for US$ 550. Add another 512MB RAM for $100 & $200 for a video card and you're all set. IT's probably even dual-channel DDR, but I wouldn't swear on it w/o checking.

These days you're not going to save a lot of money rolling your own PC. I work in a computer store (rhymes with BompUSA), and the prices on systems are waaay down. You can pick up a P4 EE or Athlon 64 with a PCI-Express slot for ridiculously cheap and add a better videocard and more RAM and have a good gaming system. It won't be SLI or anything like that, but you said you didn't have a couple of bills to drop on it.

See, you can always get a system with the right specs as pre-built... but its quality that counts. A lot of important things are generally left out of the specs (motherboard make/model, powersupply manufacturer/wattage/amps, Ram make/model, cooling system make/model/rating, processor model (there are about usually 2-3 of any one type of processor, with different cores/cache)... list just goes on. I work at a custom computer shop, and I see plenty of people bring in Dells with 180 watt power supplies, systems that are only running at about half the possible speed due to not using DDR, systems running budget equipment with all the right flashy numbers...
K I'll take a crack at this first off some details please....
Is this a name brand machine or custom built?
Have you updated ALL drivers and run windows update?
defragged hard drive, and checked for errors?
What speed and manufacturer of memory? (not sure if you'd know this or not)
what brand and model motherboard?
how technically apt are you? IE have you ever successfully flashed the biod of a motherboard before?
have you considered a video card upgrade?
checked for spyware/malware and viruses?
When was the last clean install of Windows done?
from that stop error it looks almost like a problem with either the memory controller getting confused on the motherboard or an actual memory problem either RAM or Video RAM, best guess, but that depends on the answers to the questions above. Please let me know what you can, and hopefully that will be enough. I'll chk in on you in the morning ![]()
BTW I fix PCs for a living so I might be able to help, trust me its not worth leaving something you love just because of a glitch. These things can be fixed
