Thread: AP weapons penetrating PSG's

There have been a few comments in the past regarding AP weapons penetrating PSG's with no damage reduction (including the resistances of the PSG's). I asked about this issue a while back and have been informed that it is working as intending- Armor Piercing weapons are supposed to completely penetrate PSG's. Note that following the combat balance the exact way all this stuff works may change.

Fantastic. So for the time being the best weapon in SWG is something that is cobbled together by a race of desert scavengers with the intent of disabling droids and machinary.

They don't penetrate psgs. I know this from experience. Sometimes the psgs get bugged and don't work, which is why you have to equip and re-equip it before each battle.

With a 400 dmg jawa rifle and headshot3, a rifleman will do 200-250 mind dmg through my 37% stun armor. But when I equip my effect sliced imp psg at 60% stun resists, the dmg range is around 40-80.

You know, I could have sworn that I've seen PSG's block damage from AP weapons in the past as well, but a number of people had reported that they weren't. This is something that definitely bears further investigation. I should have time this weekend to run a number of the tests that have been floating around, so I'll post those once they're done. Right now they include:

1. Does an AP weapon completely penetrate an operable PSG?

2. Does slicing increase the rate at which armor decays?

PSG's DO block damage from AP1 weapons. Even the T21. AP1 will not penetrate or otherwise make useless a PSG. I pay alot of attention to my combat logs. It WORKS!

However, I have noticed there is a bug that exists where the PSG will stop working all on it's own. And you have to unequip and requip it. Perhaps this is what people are seeing? Or maybe it is vunerable to an AP weapon when I think it's not working. Not real sure on that, but I DO KNOW that psg's do work against AP1 weapons or higher just the same as armor.

AP is NEVER supposed to just negate the resists. The resists are ALWAYS supposed to come into play, ap vs ar ratings just determine if there is a dmg bonus, or negative dmg bonus..Not whether or not something will be resisted in the first place.

The combat balance can kiss my a**. Personally I view "combat balance" as the biggest running joke in the game.

that's weird. the AS correspondent just said that AP weapons will negate resists on the PSG, so why is it reducing the dmg from a jawa ion? jawa ion is an AP1 weapon. another flaw in the dev response. /sigh.

I have a screenie (which I will post later when I have more time) from yesterday showing the psg was blocking damage from an AT-ST...hehe, those things definitely have AP.

Yep, PSGs are sliceable, although you risk getting an encumberance slice which of course doesn't do you much good

Indeed it does! Unless you account for the massive size of the things if you drop them in a house for show. Carrying something the size of a speeder in your belt should wear you down.

Jaato: I believe I was one of the few reporting that AP weapons didn't work with the shields. At the time my information came from a friend, allthough asking him now he doesn't seem to have any problems anymore. So it was either a rare case, armorhole, or a part of the shiftingproblem which has now been fixed.

It does however make sense that the Jawa rifle should penetrate or temporarily disable shields, but only if the rifle also gain the "perks" from the fiction. As DirthNader so elegantly put it, they are crude items thrown together from items not really made for that kind of use, so a large chance to blow up would certainly make it more balanced (the soe-way). Perhaps to prevent your multimillion Jawa rifle (now THAT is a contradiction) from vanishing the explotion would only say temporarily disable the weapon.
