Thread: Padded Armor: USELESS

Is it just me or is Padded Armor completely worthless? The encumbrance on various pieces are INSANE, the helmet for example had 275 mind encumbrance... and before you say it's a crafter doing quality of quantity, this was a crafter that had TECHNIQUES IV, and Layers I. The Layers when applied didn't effect the stats at all! Layers are completely broken! The encumbrance makes it so it's basically impossible to wear a full suit, and it doesn't even absorb much if any damage.

Hehe.. just wait until you see the encumberances on Composite if you think Padded is high

How the hell are people supposed to wear these suits of armor? Was it all in SoE's master plan to make Armorcrafters worthless? Seriously, I'm used to armor being something you WANT to wear, and I'd rather not run around wearing bone armor since it's the only thing that will protect me from blaster fire without destroying my stats.

Find a good armorsmith that knows what hes doing, and when u see the 30% kenetic resists you will all think differently. Dont forget, you dont have to wear the whole suit either.

Ok fataldaem, I'm the armorsmith that made it.

I have Technique IV and used a Kinetic and Energy layer.

Perhaps you'd care to share your secret for getting 30% kinetic out of a padded suit?

Also, don't forget about Chefs, Doctors, and Smugglers that can boost your stats considerably. This can offset the hit from wearing armor in a large fashion.

The armorcrafter has Techniques IV, but layers do absolutely nothing. How are you supposed to get 30% resists and still be able to wear it? The higher the resists the more the encumbrance, and it's impossible to even wear most of a suit of padded. Armor, frankly, seems to be quite useless.

Eh, one more note. Really, below Composite, the only armor worth actually crafting seems to me to be Chitin. The complexity is low enough that you can easily pump out near 28% Kinetic/18% everything else stats for much less stat encumberance and not needing any special resources. Tantel, in my opinion, is also somewhat decent for Medics and Squadleaders because it offers moderate protection and is much lighter on the stat hits.

Ubese and Padded, to me, are more for show than actual Utility because of their resistances not being hardly any better than an easy to make suit of chitin. In my opinion, they aren't very good when compared to the complexity ofChitin/Tantel, the types of resources required, and the inability to really make them in large amounts for public consumption at a decent pace.

A lot of people go for the ubese because of the 20% base kinetic though - every single chest/leg and helm with have this. It is possible to get these of course with chitin, but not on an every single try basis.

Somewhat true Grachus. However, I just make schematics and run them through my factory. So in that case, not very much different. The complexity of Ubese makes the successful experimentation a tad more difficult to acheive at a rate that is above Chitin. While this is certainly possible, using generic resources of high quality is a much better draw than waiting for Neutronium Steel, and then hoping it is of good quality.

Good point - although I've had issues with factories accepting factory crate items as input, it seems to be a crapshoot.

But back to the topic at hand, Padded Armor *IS* useless - at least the larger pieces of it. The bug that doesn't allow the attributes of armor segments into pieces of armor requiring 2 or more of the same component renders padded chest, helm and leggings totally and utterly useless since the layered segments won't affect the end quality.

Padded and Tantel are better than you think. You have to actually field test the stuff before blowing it off as useless. Padded and Tantel both have significantly higher baseline absorb percentages than chitin. Unfortunately padded and tantel require very specific materials and you end up using some poor avian bones or lokian leather which hurts them significantly. That is the problem.

Yep, that's why Chitin is the armor everyone makes regardless of their actual ability.

If Chitin really isn't cutting it for someone, quite honestly i will suggest going for faction armor because the higher level armors are not an overallimprovement (but i havent seen composite yet). Spending a few days on faction armor is going to be easier than making a chestpiece of anything that can match those stats.
