I have been looking around on the boards here, checking shops all over the place, but I just don't see anyone making padded armor.....now I assume that this is because of composite.....but can anyone tell me about padded? Is it worth time for me to make any? Does it take crated segments as well? Thanks

Padded is great looking armor. Most people want it for looks though. Oh and it's a pain to make cause it takes Lokian Leathery, Scaley and Wooly Hide (Yavinian Wooly for the advanced segment). That's probably the reason why not many armorsmiths bother making it.Special resist is blast which is not that useful either.

Ahhh so it's one of those difficult items to get resources for....same problem I am having right now with Ubese, that stinkin Nuetronium Steel is killing me......

The hide is the main problem with it. It takes about 425 Yavinian wooly for a full suit's segments. that not including the hide you need for armor itself. It takes so much hide it sucks. It looks awesome (aside from the helmet) but it just takes so much to make. Layering padded armor is a true test of the armorsmith and his ability to manipulate layer encumberances. Plus the armor is already vulnerable to heat, acid, and stun. (I think i might be wrong about the stun vuln) This doesnt make the armor too good for pvp unless you find some good enhancments.

Yeah its one of those "why waste all your wooly hide on 10 suits of padded when you can make like 30 suits of composite" type things. (Generalizing of course)

I guess most armorsmiths dont make it because:

• Its inferior to other available armor types


• It takes lots and lots of hides


• It needs a bunch of named resources, and most already have their hands full with the ones needed for better armor types

Like someone said, people just buy it for looks, so you can probably get by with just making it non advanced with crap resources. The way I see it, armorsmiths makes protection, not fashion. If people want fashion they should go see a tailor.

Because of the fact that most (90% or more) of Padded is worn by those who just want it for the looks, that makes it a custom item by nature. I don't want to spend my time trying to guess which colors people are going to want and making 50 suits to cover the basics for my vendor. Its not worth the time. Also, one of the most frustrating things in the game is having to try and match what color people want. No one knows what colors we have, and invariably the one you pick is not what they really want. My dark blue may be someone elses medium blue. This leads to a lot of wasted armor pieces and is the #2 reason why I don't do custom orders anymore (behind just the time involved).

They really need to give us armor customization kits so we can just make armor and not worry about the colors at all. Just make all of them like composite is now. That might help Padded some.

I actually specialize in Padded Armor. I have customers that want it for the looks and I have customers that want it for the protection. I use layering to get higher kinetic resistance out of it. It's pretty easy without the use of Advanced Segments for me to get the padded at 50% kinetic resistance. I have several people who actually use a combination of padded and composite for PvP now. Generally people will wear a composite chest plate and helmet and the rest padded. One this is a good combo for protection and two this actually looks good when you color coordinate your composite and padded.

The demand for padded is definately there. Just stand in a crowded area wearing brightly colored padded and watch the tells.

Most masters make ubese and comp though because of the higher margins for less resources. Padded is only good for custom orders though due to the large amount of color choices and because people are buying it for the look.

i can make a full set of padded armor with kinetic resist in the 45-50% range and yet have it equippable with the right kind of stats. it has one of the best color pallettes next to n00bweave er marbweave. its just fantasic i became an armorsmith just to make the stuff =). yeah i hate the fact you need yavin wooly hide curbian steel andlokian leathery hide. its a hide hog indeed. lots ofparticular resources when you look at it vs compsite.

In theory adv. padded armor isn't that useless (if you would forget for a sec about vuln to acid and heat). I just made a set of adv. padded for myself with heat and acid layers and it came out with 50% base, and I don't even have best minerals (lokian leathery can be better, right now it's something like OQ: 550, SR: 620, MA: 530, and corellian fiberplast also isn't good enough) so with all best resources you can, most likely get base up to 55-60% which isn't bad at all. It's also lighter then composite (except for helm... Something strange going on with encumbs on padded helm I got 290 mind). My chest plate came out with 180 (I think) encumbs to health. So overall it's not a total piece of crap. But it's very hard to make and it requires a lot of hard to find minerals.
