Thread: Padded Armour is it good for anything other than looking nice?

I read the guide here (Have a newb AS on Eclipse now) and noticed that Padded, although high up on the 'tree' to make, doesn't seem to have anything going for it in the way of benefits?

The guide says the HAM costs are high if you want decent protection.

What sort of 'decent protection' can padded provide? No-one seems to make it except as 'Dress Armour' from what I've seen, with very low resists.

Anyone know what resists you can make Padded up to without adding Krayt parts etc. ?

I just made a test pair of padded armor gloves with the following stats unlayered:

Special:
Blast, 18%
Effectiveness:
Kinetic 43%
Energy 43%
Restraint 43%
Cold 43%
Electricity 43%
Vulnerability:
Acid
Stun
Heat
Encumbrance: 22/48/25

This was all experimented for Quality, then Durability, and I only have 10 points.

I also made a pair using two kinetic layers like I use in ubese (13% kinetic, 2% base), and got 74% Kinetic as a special.. but the HAM costs were higher than my 80% Kinetic composite.

So in short, with only 10 points to experiment with, it seems padded is basically a waste of time, especially given the specific resource requirments.

But, I did notice that Durability experimenting on padded is pretty efficient... so perhaps with 12 points to experiment with, it might be possible to bring the weight down to lower than composite, for better protections than ubese gives all-round?

Not only that, but the helmet is ugly as sin.

I was getting bored and wanted to give some of the folks on my server a change so began doing custom padded suits with a 50% base and HAM around 600/675/600. Took some work and good resources but its been fun making all the bizaar color combinations.

It doesn't compare to Composite but with a decent slice you can get base up to 65%-70% and not look like a clone. People just use it to look pimped out in something different. Do you know how many people have NEVER seen padded?I have been amazed at how many custom suits I have done in the last week. Over 30. Most people just want a change. Orders keep rolling in.

I wish they would give us something new to make people. Armor is one of the more enjoyable perishable products SOE has to offer in-game.

Acklay hide is pretty nice. The segments have no ecumbrance, so the suit is actually pretty light. I used some 16% base segments last night and made some 47% base, 60% energy padded.

Only problem is that most people seem to think these things should fetch buku credits because they drop from the acklay (kinda like the folks that want huge ducuts for 10% base krayt segments).

I started messing w/ padded b/c my tailor and I share a shop. I used padded to compliment his clothing selection and on special order i make decent sets of padded. they are nothing fancy but they are different from composite and offer a huge color palette.

Padded armor is what I wear (and what my vendors wear) but other then looking good it doesn't do a helluva lot. It keeps me a bit protected when I go check on my harvs on endor and lok when I have to place them there, but other then that, they really just have a nice asthetic value.

People really love padded armor. I advertised on Bloodfin last wek that I was making custom padded suits (minus helmet, cause no one wears them) out of grind quality materials, experimented for HAM with leftover points in base. I ended up with stuff I could wear unbuffed (I still have my starting Medic stats from last year) and about 15% base.

I sold suits in custom colors for 25k. I make some good money doing it too. Now that I can't hunt my own Lokian Leathery, I haven't taken any orders.

I wear Padded in place of ubese which i think is ugly as sin. With some good resources and a few enhancers, u can get a special protection up to 80. Use janta hides, rancor hides and even krayt scales. The good thing about padded is that the bracers/ bi-s, boots and gloves only use 1 segment so u dont have to bother with schematics for all those pieces. Max a kinetic or energy layer add these enhancements and u can get 80 rather easily. I usually make 2 suits, have em sliced up and i can wear the encumbrance- sliced suit w out buffs. Now, is this practical for non- Armorsmiths, heck no? Would i spend the time to do this for any ol customer, not unless the price was worth the time. Too bad, cause it takes a lot of time and money to get a useable Padded suit. Oh yeah and it's about 2/3 the condition of composite too so after a few battles ur looking at repeating the whole process. Match it to a comp helm and ur one badass looking mofo, tho.

I currently make a Ubese alternative with padded. Its 80% kinetic with 52% base. The HAM is horrible (low 700's for a full suit, unsliced) but with some good slices it makes an excellent PVE suit. Plus you don't have to look like all the other clones out there. I generally charge an arm and a leg for it since I have to make it by hand, but those with a little extra cash to burn are more than happy to pay 500k per suit for something other than ubese or composite. The down side is it took forever to get any decent resources to make padded, and the hide requirements are insane (especially with the yavin wooly).

Resources for padded are insane, I agree. I made some 64% or so kinetic padded, and it has much higher base than ubese, but it's more expensive to produce than composite and doesn't sell for as much. =/

I just sold some rancor segments that were 44% base

I should have kept em to see what it would have made, I am sure the base would be around 70% or more

presonally I preferred the 1.5 mill I sold em for
