Ok, here is the full deal on padded:

Not good for PVP use, AWESOME for PVE.

It's the only armor I have seen other than composite that has both kinetic and energy (2 most common damage types) above 40%, and here is the other side that no one has mentioned - regen rate.

In heavy duty comp armor, specials eventually bleed away my health, even with good buffs. Not so in padded. You would think the 100-200 Enc difference wouldn't matter much, but it matters the world when you are firing special after special.

Yes, don't be fooled by what people have told you - encumberance matters even when buffing. With just buffs and food, you can go the full 3 hours and take down Nightsisters galore (I have done it).

My only suggestion is this - if you are going to have padded armor made, have it done with either good Rancor or Acklay padded segments. Otherwise, the base won't hit much past 30% likely, unless great materials are being used, and few use materials like those in padded.

yea i've seen some good padded better than ubese, and with ham in between composite and ubese, lol well that is how it should be anyways, but for the most part i dont see too much good padded, its probabably cuz smiths arent all dedicated into finding good resources for it

I was finalyable to get some decent yavin wooly, not the greatest but good. I made 75% Kinetic Padded with 47% base. I tried a set myself tonight and like someone said it is great for PVE. I like the color options which are hundreds of combinations to choose from.

I am sick of looking at composite, so it is nice for a change to make something different. I keep my vendor stocked with a variety, but overall it is mostly composite. I have 60% Kinetic Chitin, 72% Kinetic Ubese, 75% Kinetic Padded and all kinds of Composite 80/70 to 38% stun.

I personally love padded. Yes ..it looks way cool ..but when well made can have some decent stats too ... my currect suit is in shambles from many repairs (ahh the life of a BH) ..and I honestly cant recall the original stats .. but now its at 45% to the great majority of its resists, and 15% stun special. The HAM is quite low also ...about a third that of a comp suit. Of course its sliced. But having had used about every other armor in the game ..its by far my favorite type. Biggest problem is ..I CANT FIND REPLACMENTS .. half the armorsmiths I have emailed ignored me, a couple laughed, I've gotten a few "I'll get back to you in a few days" ..which doesnt help my current armor problems .. and more then my share of "Padded sucks ..try (insert armor type here)" ... I WANT PADDED.

Sooo ..on that note ..if any Master Armorsmith on Intrepid is interested in making me a few pieces (I usually only wear a partial suit and a PSG, and the parts of the full suit I dont wear dont need replacing) ..send me a tell or email in game with price. Money really isnt an issue .. I want good quality. I have 10 matching Rancor Pads that can be used also. My character name is in my signature. Looking for the following in black/black...
