Heya,

Let me start off by saying that I am not or have ever been an Armorsmith, so my knowledge on this is based on what I've been able to learn from others. Basically what I'm looking for here is a confirmation that it's correct, and if it is to share with others that may want to know.

R.I.S. (Reinforced Insulated Sheath) armor can only be made by a Master Armorsmith that has completed the quest for the hermit on Dantooine (in the mountains near the "Abandoned" Rebel Base POI), waypoint: (-6805,6022). Please refer to the RIS FAQ for the complete details of this quest.

RIS has a Light Armor Rating.

RIS armor has Kinetic as a Special Protection (meaning it can't be increased through effective slices) and is naturally vulnerable to Stun and Acid.

RIS armor no longer suffers from stat shifting (if you don't know what that is don't worry about it).

There are 9 pieces to RIS armor: Helmet, Chest Plate, Leggings, Boots, R&L Biceps, R&L Bracers, and Gloves.

Not all races can wear a full suit of RIS armor. Only Humans, Zabraks, and Twi'leks can wear a full set. Wookies of course can't wear any of it (don't worry, your "version" is coming). Trandoshins can't wear the Helmet, Gloves, or Boots. Bothans and Rodians can't wear the Helmet (suckz).

Each piece of RIS requires one RIS segment (therefore no factory runs required). However, most smiths will still want to produce them in factories to get consistent stats and to reduce the risk of failures, meaning they will need to "burn up" one segment to make a schematic.

Regular RIS segments can take two layers. Note that these do not have to be RIS layers, regular layers work as well. As far as I can determine, RIS layers only offer the marginal benefit of slightly lower encumbrance, so it's your call if you want to go to the trouble to collect all the feathers required for these layers (which aren't needed otherwise).

RIS armor and it's components require unique components that can only be acquired by looting from specific creatures, namely Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragments, Reculsive Gurk King Hides, Giant Dune Kimolgila Scales, and Peko Peko Albatross Feathers. Note that these drops are also considered extremely rare (especially the GDK).

You can tell a RIS looted component by looking at it's description, there will be no stats.

Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragments can be looted off of Woolamander Harrowers. They can be found on Yavin IV in the Woolamander Temple POI (477,-616). Only two spawn at a time and the respawn timer is 1 hour and 7 minutes. It has been rumoured that they can also sometimes be found at (0,0) due to a warping bug.

Reclusive Gurk King Hides (not the harvested kind) can be looted off of Reclusive Gurk Kings. They are on Lok and can *sometimes* be found in random (not mission) Gurk spawns, however they also spawn at two specific locations: (700,-3300) and (-3762,-3467). Only one spawns at a time at those locations and they seem to be on a 30-90 minute respawn timer.

Giant Dune Kimogila Scales (not to be confused with the regular armor components) can be looted off of only Giant Dune Kimogilas. They can be found on Lok as random spawns (note that it has been rumoured that ones that spawn at "Kimo City" will not drop the component). Be aware that these are extremely rare drops!

Peko Peko Albatross Feathers can be looted off of Peko Peko Albatross. They can be found as random spawns on Naboo, rumoured to be around the northern part of the map, sometimes around Kaadara. Note that these are not required for RIS armor, only for the optional RIS layers, which can be replaced by normal layers anyway.

There are also Interwoven RIS Segments, which can be looted as a limited use (5) schematic from Acklay. These segments allow for three layers instead of the normal two, allowing the armor to be much more effective. However, Acklay is the boss of the Geonosian Lab (a med-hard "dungeon" on Yavin IV) and is on a 2 hour respawn timer.

Interwoven RIS Segments have the additional requirement of Geonosian Cubes. Yellow add to the base effectiveness (+3-7%), Red reduce encumbrance, Green add to the max condition, and White can just be used as fillers (with no benefits).

Every piece of RIS armor requires 1 RIS segment and 1 Giant Dune Kimogila Scale.

Every RIS segment requires 1 Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragment and 1 Reclusive Gurk King Hide. Likewise for interwoven segs, but they also require 1 Geonosian Cube. Also, like other segments, both types can also take 1 optional Segment Enhancer.

Every RIS layer (optional) requires 1 Peko Peko Albatross Feather.

If you wanted to use all Interwoven RIS Segments you would need at least two schematics (considering the chance of critical failures) or make a factory run. However, if you’re doing a factory run it will mean that you’ll “burn up” one Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragment and one Reclusive Gurk King Hide making the factory schema, plus you’ll need the same serial on the layers/enhancers used which is an important consideration if you’re using looted layer/segment enhancer/geonosian cubecomponents (such as Nightsister Shards).

As I mentioned above, both types ofRISsegments can also (optionally) use a special looted Segment Enhancer.A coupleof the more popular ones are Janta Hides (base effectiveness +3-8%) and Nightsister Shards (encumbrance -17/-14/-33). They can also take lootedNightsister Layers (base effectiveness +3-10%) instead of regular layers.

Like regular armor segments, RIS segments and Interwoven RIS segments do not require identical layers. This means that you could potentially put into an Interwoven segment a Stun layer, an Acid layer, and a Nightsister Layer to give the armor no vulnerabilities and push up the effective resists a little. Of course, there are many more possibilities.

RIS pieces have two color areas (Color 1 and Color 2, surprisingly enough) and each can be one of the following colors: tan, salmon, brown, light brown, olive, light blue, steel blue, slate grey, maroon, aqua, red, and blue. Special thanks to owako for posting a pic of the colors here:

I'm pretty sure you can factory charges off the interwoven schmatic to get more uses off it. Yeah you loose a GKH and WBF, but it can allow you to interweave a whole suit with one schmatic. Otherwise very good summery, hopefully it will help with all the questions. I have a printout of all the non-loot resources needed, will post those later today.

Thanks, very good and useful. Better than the R.I.S. faq, which is more of a discussion about GDK drop rate than valid information.I am going to point allin-game questions to this post now.

Just one thing. The R.I.S. layer is not as bad as people make it. I do 3.16% R.I.S layer with -6/-6/-6 enc. This is the only way apart from Nightsister shards and red Geonosian Powercubes to reduce health and mind encumbrance. very useful to create 0/0/0 R.I.S. boots

Some practical examples about the use of Segment Enhancers and their range of bonus would be nice. Just some I have used so far:

  • yellow Geonosian cubes add baseeffectiveness (from 3% to 7%)

  • Nightsister Layer add base effectiveness (from 3% to 10%)

  • Janta Hides add base effectiveness (from 3% to 7%)

  • Nightsister Shards reduce encubrance (-17/-14/-33)

Yes but you can get a set of NS layers that are better and cheaper than 1 Peko feather, which pretty much makes the RIS layers pointless.

Awesome responses guys, thanks a lot! (Awesome lootable layers info Arem, I was looking for that.)

Anyway, I have a few more things that I was looking to get cleared up:

1) How many Geonosian Cubes does an Interwoven RIS Seg require? I had heard somewhere that it was just one, is this true? Doh, just saw that it was answered above...

2) What base colors is RIS available in? Is it just the red/orange hue range or can it be made in, say, black or white? Does it have a secondary color (eg. trim)?

3) Does a RIS segment require identical layers (same serial)or can the be different (ie. a Stun and Acid layer in one segment)? What about Interwoven segs?

4) Do alllootedRIS components have no serial number?

Thanks again,

RIS color palette.
http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=setandget&tp=59879&poll_id=0&category_id=19&warned=y

As each peice of RIS armor only needs one segment, you can use different layers. You always can use different layers in armor segments. The same serial requirement applies to armors where a peice required multiple segments. For example, a composite chest plate needs 4 segments from a factory crate. To make these segments, you need 5 same serial layers for each layer slot you wish to use. You will loose one layer making the schmatic, then the 4 others will be used by the factory to make the other segments. RIS armor needs one segment for each peice, so there is no need for the same serial layers other armors require. Reqular RIS segments have 2 layer slots, Interwoven segments have 3 slots.

RIS componants don't have stats or serial numbers.
