ok, im a current MDE and MWS on my alt, im considering dropping DE for AS and I have a couple of questions.

1. How bad is the dependancy on hide/bone? How much am I gonna be paying out my nose for em.

2. Can a 10pt even compete? I dont have the cash resources to go out for 11 pt or 12 pt suits. Now I know that stuff like quad spec and the more uber stun armor cant be done w/o 12 pts (got this info from AS friend) but can I make standard 80 kinetic and 70ish base stuff? and how bout the 70+ ubese?

3. How hard/expensive is the grind? I did DE in 1 day, WS in 3, i grind fast so . . just trying to gauge how much of a pain it is compared to those 2.

4. Does master Artisan help? (im not dropping it, just curious)

5. Are the only sellers comp armor? or can I make some cash selling lesser stuff like ubese and padded?

Thanks in advance for the help.

1: Well our biggest dependancy is on hide, specifically high quality wooly hide, as well as some leathery hide. Most of the armors requiring bone are frankly not worth the effort of getting bone at this time. They can be expensive, but if you have a hunter also, then you can get a lot of resources your self (which is what I do, a hunting alt is nice)

2: Yes, yes, and yes. People try to say they can't but in my experience they can. I have just barely gotten my 11th point (yay) and getting 12 points is an increadibly expensive and long process that not many can get. I would suggest going for the mid range markets, you're not going to be making the best of the best, but you can certainly compete, and get a share of the market if you work smart. Getting excellent materials will really make all the difference when it comes to getting good armor. And it is possible to get 70 base composite with 10 points, it's hard, but possible.

3: The grind will take a lil while, if you could do WS in 3 days you can probably do AS in just about much time, and about a similar amount of resources, stock up a lot of metal and chemical (I suggest iron, steel, and fiberplast) and after you get to Personal Armor III you can grind ubese shirts all the way, usually doesn't take too long.

4: Master Artisan is useful specifically for making PSGs. Although they have a limited market Imperial Protoype Personal Shield Generators can make a nice profit if made well, and all personal shield generators require a couple artisan components.

5: There's a good market for ubese, and there also might be a very hungry market for custom padded armor. I know I have found out on my server (kinda the bad way, as in word got out and now I'm swamped) that nobody was making padded armor and a lot of players where hungry for it, mainly because a lot regard it as one of the best looking armors, and the most customizable. Not to mention many just fed up with composite running everywhere.

Well I hope that helped you out, I suggest reading the Mastering Master AS guide for some suggestions but if you are comfortable as a Master WS and MAster DE then you should be able to pick up AS prettyq uickly I think

max stun with 90% slicable base (67%) isnt possible as a 10-point smith. (in bulk runs... possible with enhancers)

It IS possible at 11-points however (assuming your resources are up to it and you grind out the double amazings)

I shocked a few people by doing the impossible at 10 points... quad 80 blast/kin/energy/elecompand 80/80/80/11 kin/ele/energy/stun comp as a 10-point smith (insanely heavy though... 1k HAMS, and it took 950 oq/sr wooly)

That is basically the difference between a 10 point, and a skill enhanced smith. The ability to make the BEST pvp armor, and special triple layer combinations.... oh ya, lit- kinetic can be tough to do at 10 points too... but you can make up for some with uber resources. (meaning your profit margin will take a hit compared to what a 12 point smith can put out without breaking a sweat)

I believe the difference between skill enhanced smiths and base 10 point smiths will become much more noticable after the CU... so watch out. (HAM will become the holy grail IMHO)

on ahazi eh? I'm an armormsith on ahazi (been AS since january, WS before that). The market isnt too strong these days, but there are a lot of people searching for a new AS with the loss of the walmarts of armorsmithing such as drterror, aedyl, karabas, and sevarhin. Now is as good a time as any to get into the market and i am seeing maybe 3 or 4 really coming forward as the new "big <insert number here>" You could probably score quite a loyal base if you cut in to the ahazi armor market right now.... GL! and keep telling yourself its worth it, i've gone days when i almost quit 3 or 4 times lol

Send me a tell on Nido in game if you have pressing server specific questions (tho i am afk a lot with real life work these days)

Ithorian is easy, though it's bugged atm. It's easy because it uses the same segments as old armors, including composite.

Wook Hunting is a massive undertaking. There are5 named animal organics used: Dant Avian Bone, Tat Wooly, Dant Animal Bone, Lokian Leathery, and Dath Leathery, for starters.

For the wookie armors you also need some named wood resources, but I've found them to be fun to make and its a _very_ good starter market.
Very few AS make these as "everybody" is making composite, so I made my start as an AS in the wookie niche market. Takes alot of named organics so getting a few trusted hunters and avertising on the trade forums helps alot.
Also Wookie is only four pieces and not 9 like composite, so fewer factory runs
