Has anybody experimented with Chitin armor as a ten pointer? With decent to semi-decent armor materials, how high of a kinetic protection can you get on them? I ask this because its the only heavy armor short of Composite that can be used for grinding. It should be cheaper than Ubese (and ubese doesn't last long because of the low cond. points), but with the same kinetic protection and higher condition.I'm aiming for myfirst runtobe High kinetic Chitin armor. (In other words, get the kinetic % at least over 75%, if not more). Has anybody toyed around with this and know if its possible?

The best smiths can get 65%kin with great resources. I can get as a 11pt 60%kin with some pretty good resources. So as a 10pt with decent resources I dont know Im guessing but maybe around 50%kin?
Good luck with it.
Good luck with it.

I made 65% chitin as a 10-pointer with uber resources... the condition was only 19k or so.
Made a 74% chestplate once with some nice 8% vort scales... (had a crit success on the assembly, bumped the special 1%)
Thats the highest kin Ive ever seen or heard of on chitin...

So chitin isn't a better alternative to Ubese I'm assuming
guess I gotta start killing other things

Frankly you should be able to find light weight kinetic composite for a decent price... twice the condition as ubese and higher base too

Well, Its not whether I will use it personally, but I plan on selling it and providing it for my guild. Am I able to make high kinetic (approx. 75%+) composite as a 10 point armorsmith?

Being a 10-point smith or 12-point makes no difference in the max kinetic you can get for either Chitin or Ubese.
Even with just 10 points you can max out all the bars. 12 points won't let you exceed your resource ratings.
The advantage 12 points gives you is having some points left over to use on a different bar, like durability.
So in other words, given really good resources a 10-point smith and 12-point smith should be able to make Chitin with around 63-65% kinetic. The Chitin made by the 12-pointer though will have higher base or higher durability.
Same thing for composite. If you can't hit 80% kinetic on composite your problem is resources, not how many points you have. Unfortunately when it comes to making super lightweight kinetic a 12-pointer will be able to make it MUCH lighter. That's because after hitting 80% kinetic the 12-pointer will have many more points to put into reducing encumbrance. Regardless, you should be able to make decently light 80% kinetic anyway. Just look for the top resources (or wait for them to spawn over time).

I am going to let you in on a little secret:
Chitin is much more valuable than people think.
And a trip out to Ft Tusken will tell you why. Take a trip buffed out there to solo with some 50%kin 40% base Chitin. Then Take one with 73% Kin 20% Base Ubese.
Unless you kill quickly, you WILL die more in the Ubese suit.
I know I got excited when I was able to craft the 73% Ubese, but dying out by the tuskens was brutal - Every trip out with the Ubese, fully buffed.
Not saying you should go out with Chitin to PVP, but it is very underrated.

I made a factory run of 50 chitin suits
66% kinetic 25% base with very low ham, condition was right around 20k just like ubese. sold them like candy for 120k a full suit. Used up alot of uber resources too, the final was expermented to 95% special lol (950+ oq and sr)
I dug around the factories the other day found a pack with crates of 10 of each piece, guess ill toss them on the vendor.
the 77-78% kinetic ubese is VERY hard to beat, granted you could very easly get the base way up by useing a quality capped (4%)9% kinetic double amazing kinetic layer, on the seg cap out special with an amazing then toss rest into quality (base) then in the final you should assemble in the 40% area insted of 51-52% if you capped kinetic all the way. base will be in the mid to upper 20's on assembly, get kinetic to about 70% then dump rest to base, I bet you could get it way up there.
I was testing some energy layered ubese once, got it to 65% energy, 64% kinetic 51% base with amazing on final on a pair of test gloves. that was an interesting pair of gloves lol. Used a double amazing energy layer, 3% base 14% energy, then cranked the base all the way up tossed what was left in special on seg, did the same on final.
Honestly chitin was more of a nastalga for most of them buyers, Ubese has always been a better way to go, can get almost 21k condition and 77-78% kinetic, and with that high of kinetic can dang near solo krayts with it lol, only 2%-3% lower kinetic then comp. vs critters ubese will blow away ubese, ve other npc's as well, like stormies or energy slinging guys comp all the way for its versatility.

The one good thing about chitin is that for stat hindered species, it makes a nice set of armor to wear if your out hunting unbuffed. If some great wooly spawns on naboo, this is what I'll be wearing while out collecting.

I think the best advantage in making chitin over ubese is the ability to use custom enhancers in the segments... assuming you're willing to hand craft each suit. Use up all those loose NS shards and krayt scales. /shrug

Thanks for the input everyone. Ubese is still the best hands down for Kinetic, but its no longer whether it should be made or not...but a question of when
