Thread: 'Broken' RIS Segments

I have so far dismantled 11 pieces of RIS Armour to get the segments back. This evening I went to use them to craft with and only 7 of them were useable. The other 4 gave me the message "this components is too damaged to use in the crafting process". I also noticed that all 4 unusable segments had the (i) symbol as if they were insured, where as the other 7 did not.

Is this some kind of bug, a deliberate thing with dismantling RIS segments (not 100% chance?) or something else that is intended (maybe they get 'damaged' on death, even tho they give no sign of it - and yes, I have died probably with them in my inventory, I am a crafter after all heh)?

Oh man, I sure hope not. I had disassembled my RIS Suit, and I know that I ided once with them in my inventory. Now they have the (i) around them because they got insured.

Maybe try trading them to someone else, then back again to get rid of the (i)nsurance?

A little off topic on this one. How did you dissassemble them ?? Must it be a MAS that does it?

You use the radial menu when they are in your inventory to disassemble.

You must be an MAS to do this also.

Hope that helps.

Why do RIS boots and gloves still need a GDK Scale, Woolamander Bone, and Gurk Hide? You also can't dismantle them.

Kinda stupid for something that doesn't provide protection.

I means it is insured.. not sure if insurance transfers on an item or not but one sure way to get rid of it is find a creature and let um incap you 3 times which should be pretty easy now seeing even a hermit spider can do it...

What are the stats on the new peices you were able to craft?

I am trying to decide if I should dismantle my suit.

With a little experimentation (and some unintended heh) I discovered the reason they don't work (most likely) is that they decay on death. Them being insured had nothing to do with it.

Not only that, but SEGMENTS decay on death as well. After one uninsured death tho my Segments lost 4-5% condition and my RIS Segments lost 10% condition.

This does raise a very key issue tho, not only do we have it bad when it comes to dying on harvester runs, they also punish us by decaying any components we happen to be carrying in our inventories.

Big Warning here guys, DO NOT DO HARVESTER RUNS WHILE CARRYING SEGMENTS (maybe Layers and Cores too?) or any other important components!!!

Well that's pretty scary. Is there any way you can tell the scale is broken if you're not an armorsmith? I don't want to buy scales that are broken
