Thread: Can new armorsmiths compete?

Can a new armorsmiths armor compete with an established armorsmith with alot of credits who can buy extra experimentation SEA's? Thanks for your help im contemplating whether or not it would be good for me to start or if its kind of a lost cause.
If you're new to the game, the answer is most definitely NO. Unless you've bought a lot of ebay'd credits and resources.
If you've been playing for the better part of a year (since Jun 2003) and stockpiling those special resources (colat, polysteel, crism, nabooian fiberplast, kiirium, wooly hide, stuff like that) and have 900's in OQ / SR / MA / UT as applicable, then you have a chance.
With the borgle loot being changed, all existing tapes are now priceless, and will be until the dev's do something about it (don't hold your breath...)
In other words, good luck. I'd rather take the spring / summer break from MMOGs and give WoW a try if it's released in November.
I grinded up to Techniques 4 then started making each of the armours as i gained the xp.
There is a market for ALL armours in the game - newer players with little cash are happy to buy 30% resist bone and mabari, while Chitin can be very effective with good experimentation. Not everyone wants to (or can wear)Uber Resist/HAM composite.
If you also spend some points on Tailoring you can make a fair bit of sideline cash out of selling the components such as synthetic cloth, reinforced fiber panels and armour padding (for the new wookie armour). For some reason a lot of Tailors are reluctant to make these available to the general armoursmithing community (unless you have a special relationship with one), so the market is there.
Go for it! Armoursmithing is fun either way.
But then again, new armorsmiths shouldn't be trying to compete against the Masters. They can make composite and high quality ubese, you can't... simple enough.
Now I think your question truly is, "Can a new armorsmith make money?" The answer is most definitely yes.
I kept food on the table (so to speak) for myself in the early days of armorsmithing by selling mabari and chitin on the bazaar. You won't make a ton of money, but you'll make some, especially if you price competitevly. As another poster mentioned, new players are willing to buy the stuff made by inexperienced armorsmiths because it's pretty dirt cheap. There is a market out there for your stuff. Unfortunately the hologrinders have caused people to overlook some of the 'low level' armors.
SEAs? I have been picking up a few here and there. I am not going to put them into anything until I am sure I can maximise their use (which means I might hold on to the +2 armor exerimentation with +2 something else too until they fix SEAs to work like in they published in the Friday feature a few weeks ago). I actually am glad the Bat cave seems to be nerfed. I know it will raise the already inflated prices of the experimentation tapes, but the flip side of it is worse. I wish they would put in a crafted item for armorsmiths like -all- of the other crafting professions giving an experimentation (or make the tailor one for both or just us cause other than the -new- padding tailors don't experiment).
