Hello,
Never posted to the AS forum, so please be gentle!
I have a doctor, and I'm probably going to drop it. I saw the info on how armor will be created, and it sounds like there's a good amount of customization that will be available--other than just color.
I like the prospect of customization and potential complexity that this affords.
Just curious what current armorsmiths are thinking of the upgrade, and do you think if I wanted to "make the move" to AS, should I start now, or wait until the CU?
I dream of a day that we can all have our own little "niche" of customization that can't be mass duplicated by others....I'm guessing that's still a few generations of MMORPG away, though.

It's looking good. I'm excited that I will prob be asked to make more than just comp.
Too bad you're dropping doc. My alt's a doc and I've been trying to decide what to do with him.... but every AS needs a fighter to keep him form going stir crazy....

Its gonna be great for money. Get stocked up on resources, and you should be set. Once that CU hits, everyone is gonna be looking for a new set of armor.

start now... dont worry too much about resources... but i suggest selling all your doc resources and make as much money as you can get for them in preparation
then join in on TC there's a small AS coalition that is growing...slowly.. just ask oa'kron

Well let me put it too you like this,
The best tank in the game, TKA, does not wear armor, if that gives you any idea of the importance armor has now.

which most likely means that TKA will not be a major flavor.... circa launch

However, TKA get some of the best dodge bonuses in the game. They're supposed the best tank because they can *avoid* the damage, not absorb it. Bounty Hunters, on the other hand, (if I remember my perusal of the new skillsets) wear assault armour, and they too are classified as a 'tank'.
Other professions, those that aren't meant to take the damage like that, will still have need of the other armours too to stay alive, I'm pretty sure.

Pikeman is supposed to be one of the best tanks now too. They have some of the best defenses.

I gather that the game is going to be more about strategies, and less about uber-items, which, in MY opinion (humble as it may be) is GREAT for the game.Now...the implementation of those factors...that could be different.
I absolutely LOVED Asheron's Call, because of a few factors--you had to select an attack type, and based on the opponent, different things were more or less vunerable. Also, you had different damage types (Acid, Cold, etc).
SWG did a very good job at incorporating these kinds of ideas from the start. The only exception--there tends to be a "best one to use" all the time, depending on your class. My TKM--Knockdown followed by 4 Unarmed Hit 3s is devastating, regardless of what I'm fighting. Seldom use much else, really (especially buffed....let's not go there).
The CU looks like theywant to introduce a new factor, too. Different "best armors" based on the situation. I may have misread some of the stuff, but I gather that in general, everyone will benefit from having access to different types of armor, depending on the role they intend to fill for that particular group. (I'm personally hoping soloing isn't completely gone...I feel silly being able to solo a Kimo, but I'd like to think I can still handle a bunch of Gurks...)
I've rambled on long enough, and effectively wandered off topic, I suppose.
Dropping doc right now is a painful thought--I have about 150 buffs to give out to break even on what I bought about 3 weeks ago.
We'll see, though.
Many thanks!

No, that means that the best tank in the game does so completely without armor. Yes if you want the best protection in the game you do not want to wear armor but have TKA.
Put two and two together, no armor costs, best protection. TKA will be a huge flavor and be in any melee template for sure, if not in most peoples template. Have no mistake, this alone is a huge nerf to armor.

Ya, the more I look at it , the worse it seems. At first I thought we would get to sell more armor, but now I'm starting to think it will be a lot less.
