Thread: Mix n' match Armor Types

I thought I read about this in one of Okram's number crunching posts, but how exactly does the damage work now? Does it still hit an area like it did before, (head, left arm, etc)?

I guess the real question is, someone asked me what would happen if he wore a composite helm with padded armor everywhere else (since all other helms are ugly)? Would the lower energy resists with the assault helm only matter on a "head hit" even though the combat spam no longer specifies that is where in fact it hit? That seems to be the case because of the inbalance that we are getting on durabililty. He thought that it just takes theaverage of protection from all the pieces and applies it randomly to one of the pieces (causing the decay on that piece). Anyways, How would you answer his question?

I thought I read in one of the original "Official" CURB posts by the DEV's that if you mixed and matched armor types, the lowest stats would stick. (i.e. helmet with high kinetic low energy, but chest with high energy low kinetic....the suit would become low kinetic and low energy. Not necessarily changing the stats on the suit itself, but that's the way it would behave in combat. Reason being...not wanting people to be creative and abuse the system or something like that.)

I hate to say it, but that does sound familiar? Anyone else able to comment on this? Also, so does that mean the damage mitigation IS averaged across the suit and there is no more head hit, right arm hit, etc.?

I hope they confirm how damage is calculated because if it automatically takes the lowest then that is just not right. If they cant have it calculated by body area protected they why not do an average or go with what the majority of the armor is. I myself do not wear the padded or marauder helms because they look silly (and ALOT of my customers and guild wont wear them either cuz they are just silly looking). Either that or change the art work on the silly looking helms.

I dont know ANYone that thinks the padded helm looks good.

I have been operating under the asumption that only the hands and feet were no longer targetable, hence the zero condition. It would explain one why I get my ass handed to me against padawans wearing full tantel with comp leggings.

I've noticed that usually just 1 piece of my armor takes the full brunt of the condition hit, while the rest takes maybe 1k-2k, my helm takes about 7k. I think it's safe to say that the armor condition distribution is not even, which might indicate it's bugged, or that a majority of creatures now target the head.

If you're referring to my post.....I think it was stated in the early CU release docs. There was some Q & A or something. I know I remember it...and I'm pretty sure I remember it correctly, but I'm not sure if it has been implimented or not??

The original CU docs said that If you mix and match armor types, the highest HINDRANCE is what will stick. I've never read anything official about how hits are distributed. Okram's testing, however, showed that legs and helmets wear out the quickest. One might assume that that means they get hit the most, but who knows?

My theory is that there are 3 hit locations; head, legs and body. If you are doing a random attack it will have an equal (?) chance to hit each location. If you use for examaple a head hit it will always hit the head.

If you hit the body it actually consists of several parts, chest and the individual arm parts (5 in total). My guess is that chest plate has a higher chance to get hit than the other arm parts. Let say that chest is hit 50% every time.

If you are attacked with random location attacks then legs and helmet will decay faster assuming the above is correct (1/3 chance to hit each area). If we assume the above is correct then chest would be hit 16.5%

When looking at numbers what decays fastest this seems to be true.

I am sure that the system looks at different parts. When I was not using arm parts I noticed I get hit without absorbing any damage. That did not happen that often because the probability to hit an unprotected arm part is pretty low.

Something tells me that you're absolutely right.

That makes sense to me also, but since it actually makes sense, I'm not sure I trust that it is correct!

I was going to try and test it a little this morning before work, but no one else in my guild is an early riser! Oh well!

If someone doesnt wear a helmet and you use Head hit.. their armor doesnt absorb anything.. but if they do wear a helmet (of any kind) their "lowest" resist out of the 7 armor spots gets used to calculate the head resists..
