If someone doesnt wear a helmet and you use Head hit.. their armor doesnt absorb anything.. but if they do wear a helmet (of any kind) their "lowest" resist out of the 7 armor spots gets used to calculate the head resists..

Where did you learn that? Did you read it? Test it? Or just notice it? That really doesn't make a lot of sense, but staying consistant with the logic I used above, it's probably right!

Actually Balute, we are asking the same question. Since, according to Okram, wear on the armor is determined by how much damage passes through the armor, having higher resists limits that wear a little more. All his tests show that the legs are getting hit more which lead me to think that attacks still hit different locations, but it could also be that the damage is only applied to a random specific area and the legs seem to picked the most. Question one is which one of those systems is correct.

Question two is, assuming the latter is correct, what happens when you wear armor with different resists? Does it just defalt to the lowest resist of all the pieces? The hightest? What if there is a uncovered spot? Is it included? I'd love to test all this, but I don't know when I'll be on. If you can do it Balute, it would be much appreciated.

I testeded with my Jedi who has Leg Hit Head Hit and Body hit. If my opponent wore no helmet and I used headhit I got no "armor resist" indications. If They wore low end pants but high end chest and helm. the resisted based on the pants resists. (i dont know why it works this way)

Hmm...Thanks Zutan. Do you think that is working as intended then? If so, what's the reasoning? Granted, this is not one of the pressing concerns on the functionality of armor, but it is something to keep in mind IF any of this other stuff on Caile's list ever gets fixed.

So it's lowest resist and highest hinderance. This is how SOE forces their will upon us.

Tarwin

let me make myself a little clearer...................It would explain the large amount of energy damage I take from a level 2 saber if the lowest resists stick in a mixed suit of armour.........................................

kinetic composite assualt armour leggings mixed with 7200 tantel chestpiece = crap energy resists,

this CU gets gheyer the more I understand about it

See this is truly messed up then. My armosmith is still in their "pre-production" stage right now, so I went to a good armorsmith on my server to get some for my combat toon. All he had left was a set of singles...minus the left bicep (go figure). I have an old guild uniform in similar colors to that suit, but with resists in the low 2000's. I thought, what they hey, and just used that with this armor (which has very nice resists). I haven't paid any attention and haven't had a chance to test it, but if my overall resists are borked from that one bad bicep, I'll be upset (even if it's just my chest that is borked, that's not right).

Welp, I did some 'field' testing of mix n match tonight, and I gotta say that the results are a bit bad. I was PvP'ing here on Valcyn, and was wearing mabari pants and helm, w/ a comp chest (robot arms so no armor there). Depending on the weapon shooting me, I was getting hammered in some cases. Resists on both sets were like 7500 / 3500ish for the comp, and 3500ish / 7500 for the mabari / tantel mix. Against riflemen, if they were using energy weapons, getting hit around 250 - 400. If kinetic rifles, I was getting hit around 700 - 900 ish. Not sure on conclusions here, because I didnt stop to ask what shot they were using, but it looks initially like it all depends on where you get shot.

I'll continue w/ testing, hopefully in a more controlled environment...or at least me paying more attention

Hey Mxxpower... padawans cannot wear armor and use a LS... well... they can, but cannot use the force or any specials... I don't know where you are getting this from but check your facts before you make something up...

I remember hearing someplace that only 1 set of resists would take effect if you wore a mixed up suit.. whether the "highest" or "lowest" is supposed to work I dont know. I do know that VS NPCs what armor the wear has NO effect on resists. Only in PVP does it seem to work for the coverage (or if you're not wearing a full suit and PVE enemy hits you in an empty spot, you dont resist.
