Thread: Ridiculous prices for armor!

Come on guys....I'm a weaponsmith, I know that someitems are hard to craft and reallydeserve extra credits, but my wookiee has worn out his hunting armor pants and so I went looking for a replacement set. First of all...wookiee armor is incredibly hard to find, and when I did, a complete set was priced at 990k, that's almost a million credits for a single set of armor! Sure it had nice stats, but it wasn't that special. No loot segments, just a plain set of wookiee huntng armor for a million bucks! A full set of composite is only costing humans 100k - 250k depending on quality. I got so mad that I grinded out novice Armorsmith and I am seriously considering dropping shipwright so that I can make my own armor. I have read a bit about making the wookiee armor and it doesn't look easy, but is this a reasonable price for Naritus? Perhaps AS is a very nice profession to be in?

To add to it all, It has become harder to earn credits these days. I think it's a time to deflate the economy, I know weapons aren't selling for what they used to, why has armor skyrocketed? If I didn't already have some cash on hand, I'd have to run over 100 missions just to pay for this set of armor (Which is why I didn't buy it.) I'm not sure a set of armor even lasts 100 missions.

Well..sorry for the rant, but I had to get this off my chest and see what the AS's have to say about it.

good grief that's absurd.... The only reason I can possibly see a reason for a jacked up price is becuase they require Endorian wood, and that's a resources noone really harvests...

I charge the same for armor of all races, If i don't have the resource for the appearence I don't make it.

Wookie armor is a ridicolously annoying set of armor to make.

But its not worth that much.

Supply and Demand... how many times must it be stated.....

You wonder why prices are so high... yet you yourself commented on how hard it was to find at all.....

There is nothing that can be changed, tweaked or agreed upon that will neccessarily change this. Unless the supply side of the problem is fixed, the demand will continue to raise prices.

Weapons? The supply side is alot easier to deal with..... weaponsmiths can make crate after crate after crate of weapons. Armorsmiths are almost to the point where factory making armor is a thing of the past. Armorsmith vendors can't stay stocked, thus armorsmiths raise prices until the point they're vendors stay stocked at least a little while. Most weaponsmiths I know, haven't aproblem in the world with keeping a vendor stocked.

That seems pretty high.

Endorian wood isn't easy to shop for, but it is easy to come by, and since it only affects condition it's cost shouldn't put the armor anywhere near 1 mil. The guy is obviously trying to get the highest buck out of everyone. Simply put, don't shop there, and try to commission a suit from an armorsmith who will be a bit more reasonable.

as long as someone's willing to pay 990k, someone will charge 990k. The second everyone says that it's too high, or someone who realizes there's major bucks to be made undercuts them the price will drop. Just need more competition, which sadly with a lot fewer AS's around then a while ago, seems to be a thing of the past.

I do the next best thing...I dont make wookie armor, to much ofa pain in the toosh.

As far as Weaponsmith compared to Armor Smith...

Weapon Smith is like a walk in the park. The armor smith has a much harder time doing things. Much more completed parts. We have to Make parts, that go into part, that go into parts....and then this one part goes into the armor.

almost 4 times the work of a Weaponsmith. I am both, and I can tell you it sucks when I get large orders of armor. I turn away about half of my business becuase I'd rather Adventure or make weapons. The money is the basic drive for the AS part of it.

Im toying with deeding out some appearance wood for some hairball suits.... I think Ill price at 1.5m each. /shrug

I was selling the best hunting armor on my server before the cu for 1m, so dont say 990k is outrageous now. Maybe Ill toss them a bone an actually layer these suits, probably wont sell many of them so should go for best stats hehe.

Hey guys....sorry if I started a WS vs. AS debate. That wasn't my intent. I only mentioned that I was a WS so that I wasn't accused of not understanding what it's like to be a crafter. From what I'm hearing is that Wookiee armor is a pain, but likely not worth a million credits, more like 300k or so. This is truely what I waslooking for.

As an additional note, reading about how profitable AS is, I might actually persue AS purely for monetary reasons. And if the CUhas created a shortage of AS's perhaps it's a niche that is ripe to get into because the WS niche is essentially closed. These days.....every WS has good enough resources to make top-notch basic weaponry, and in order to get into the high end stuff you need to be a wealthy 12-pt smith with access to lots of loot. Those weapons are being put into ADK's and the need for high-end weapons has gone down considerably. Armor on the other hand wears out rather quickly....especially if the user either uses it all the time or plays a lot of high-end content. Additionally, to ADK a suit of armor it takes from 4 to 9 ADK's rather than a single ADK for a weapon.

I thank you guys for your input.

speaking as a 10 point ws with very good resources, I agree completely with your points here - sorry if what I said came out too harshly

I support the NGE - NOT!
