Does anyone know how they stack with your regular armour?

I have a shield gen tho, nice 21% energy resist with 0 enumberance. Cost me 7000 but it's worth it as long as you have a repair kit handy.

They degrade VERY quickly.

It all depends on how you use them. If you can find an armorsmith to sell them relatively cheaply and you do high credit missions, they can defiantely be worth it. Just don't waste them on mobs you can take easily.

i just heard they can be recharged. so if you have any at 0 or near it save it. dont know how but my friend says he can do it. i like it in pvp since half the guns used are energy damage and a goodpsg gives resistance to all damage types

Anyone else found that shield generators randomly lose half their resistance types every so often?

yep mine do that too. One cool bug that happend to one of my PSGs was that the condition is now 1/1 so it should still be good and protecting me, but i havent experamented with anythig attacking me to see if it is protecting me

They randomly lose any and all of them, and randomly gain any and all of them, its a well documented problem.

The same's true with Tantel armour.

How to get shield generators to work.....

1. whenever you enter a shuttle, remove PSG first, wear only before combat, remove afterwards

2. any time you enter a zone, remove then wear it again

3. shield generators work awesome if crafted correctly. The stats of the shield gens seem to change when you cross zones, particularly after space travel, but they do seem to protect.

note: if your durability is 1, thats because you screwed up when repairing the shield gen. Shield generators (in my opinion) are perfectly balanced, altho they do have that annoying display bug. They protect well for big fights, and the cost (plus time spent making them) should disway any continual use of the shield. My commando alt lives on em

They're buggy. Here's the most important tip, which is how to tell if it's working at all: read the Combat spam. You can wait until after the fight and click the Combat tab, then scroll back. If you don't see your Personal Shield Generator absorbing damage, then it's not working. Me, I keep a separate chat window open just for the Combat channel, so I can tell in real time what's working and what's not.

The developers aren't making any progress on fixing this, because as best as I can tell, no two of us at random have the same experience with them. In my case, if I have it turned on when I log off, then when I log back in it won't work. If I log in with it turned off, then turn it on, it usually works.

A few more notes about PSGs:

Contrary to what you'd think from the definitions on the combat moves, hit location is random. If the hit lands in a place where there's armor other than a PSG, then damage is reduced based on the stats of that piece of armor. Then if the PSG doesn't fail (and I'm not sure they're supposed to work 100% of the time), it takes damage out on top of that.

PSGs have next to no hit points of their own. If you fight a lot, you'll to through them in a hurry. During some patches, the percentage protection rises and falls with the condition. Since the last publish, as best as I can tell, it no longer does. Armor repair tools do work on them.

PSGs equip in the "belt" slot of your clothing. If you have skill tapes installed in a belt and you're wearing that belt when you activate your PSG, it will take off your belt.

Don't fall into the same trap I did though...this is probably not the same issue as yours, but thought I'd mention it...

I equipped one and also so no change...I even reviewed my combat spam...no protection what-so-ever...figured it was a bug...then when I went back and looked at the stats on my PSG I noticed no Kinetic protection...and of course I was fighting all kinetic NPCs the whole time...LOL...felt like an idiot...

So I went out an got a PSG with some kinetic protection...works much better....

I have been using PSG's for a while now, although i still think i continue only because of the ADD diagnosis i had as a child. Personally, i found them to be very usefull, but only under certain circumstances. Firstly, if u intend to use one for extra protection in pvp, be prepared to buy a new one after a few hits. Unfortunately they are very fragile, especially when compared to cost.

Secondly, the stats change on them randomly. Every time i load in from a shuttle, the resists change. Not sure if this was intended, or if this is a bug. (Lost count of how many times ive said that about things in this game, lol)

Lastly, u have to unequip it and re-equip it before it starts working. Just before your about to take some damage, if u have time, double click it to unequip, then double click again to re-equip, and it should be working. Always check the combat log to see if it is taking damage, if its working it will show up in there. If its not, make sure u check what resists areto see if it should be protecting you against the type of damage your taking, then try re-equipping it again. If this still doesnt work, write about it in the forums so it can be ignored by the devs. Hope this helps!!

ps: the hint of pessimism at the end there has only come about in the last few days, since i realized that eveyone who is playing this game in its first year, has payed to be a guinea pig so that people can buy and pay for a quality game next year!!
