A Final desperate plea from a True Crafter

Let me start off by saying this isn’t about being a Jedi. I came to SWG from UO strictly for the thought of a great Crafting System. I tried Everquest and DAOC but a game that promised a True Crafting system was what I was looking for. A Player Crafted Game with a vast resource system and a Usage based System was more then I could take. I was accepted into Beta and had my Account the first day it went live. I spent a short time as an Architect to make our PA Hall and then started in on Armor. On Bloodfin I’m currently one of the Top Armorsmith around. No one can make higher and only a few can make as good. I never wanted to be Jedi and at the time of the Hologrind there was never any talk of a FS Crafting tree. And the thought of Gimping my Armorsmith by Hologrinding never appelead to me. I had a huge Guild and Customer base that counted on me for Armor.

When you announced a FS Crafting tree it was too late to consider the Hologrind. But in my Goal to be the best Crafter possible in the game, I really want to get the FS Crafting tree. It was also stated back in the early part of the game that even a Casual player would have a chance of getting FS. I believe there was also a time Stamp generated with your Holo Professions and if you reached that time before you still got the FS. But with the current system in place it’s not even Realistic to Stay a True Crafter and get the FS Crafting tree. The Current figures for me to get just the 4 FS Crafting Blocks would be 6000 Full sets of Composite and at my Current price that would be 2.5 Billion Credits worth of Armor I would have to Hand Craft to get. I have probably made as much if not more Armor then anyone on Bloodfin and I don’t believe I have even made that much in the year I been in the game. Much less doing this all by hand and not in my Factory.

I do understand the problems with this. If the usage System was put back in people would simply dump huge amounts of items and this would hurt the economy. If the Crafting System FS conversion was lowered a lot of people would simply grind their way to Jedi. Even if I was to try and grind my way up I’m still looking at well over a year to do this. So much for a Casual gamer having a chance.

There has to be some answers that would work for the True Crafter and the Casual gamer.

1 Have a time based System that would Lower the required FS points needed with time. Currently it takes 7,350,000 FS Exp to get all 6 Boxes. If this was reduced 10% Every Month down to a 10% Bottom line. If this started 2 Months after they started a person at one year would only need 73,500,000 to get FS. This would at Least make it so Casual gamers would have a chance.

2 Make items at Master level give a lot more Exp. People couldn’t simply Grind Ubese Shirts to get FS. Armorsmith would be able to get more Exp for Composite. If someone wanted to Craft Grind their way to Jedi they would at least have to get Master Armorsmith and grind Composite to get anywhere.

I do feel for with Fighters with the huge amount of Exp they need to get but I would
Rather get out and Fight then to stand in my House Grinding one Item for Months on end.

Personaly I'm fairly happy with Artisan as it stands. I have Master Artisan becouse I'm a Droid Eng, and its just about impossable to make droids without Master Artisan (which happens to be my main complant about DE, look for that post when you make a "Getting to know you and your proffession, Droid Eng", post )

I'm a fireworks junky, so I like having the Engineering line, plus making powerups is a farily simple way to make some credits early in the game.

Being able to sell your junk, err.. I mean fine products... makes the Business line nice, and being able to have 2 vendors now is even better.

Master Artisan is vaulable becouse you can make bikes/speeders (and all that stuff DEs and Architects need)

Overall I think its a well balanced proffession, has plenty of content for the SP it costs.

My most pressing issue: We need an easyer way to load fireworks show packages... and of course more firework types! (And the fact that it is about requried for DE's, but like I said thats a diffrent post)

Hehehe I thought i was going to be only one to talk about vehicles.

Yes I agree with the above. I'd love for the developers to go back and "revamp" vehicles and make their crafting similar to how starfighter crafting looks to be.

My favorite is Pod Racers.

Otherwise Artisan is working pretty well.

I do not think I am the only one that feels this way but I would like to see experamentation in HAM cost be more effective. I myslef only make composite armor but as off right now that is the best when it comes to overall effectiveness.

I think it would be nice to be able to craft factional armor.

Also if you use a Syn. cloth or re-enforced fiberplast panel with a BE enhancement on it, it should transfer over to the armor itself like clothing.

I completely agree, I don't think that it's right that someone can stand in 40% Stun / 90% Base Armour and spam to his heart's content. There needs to be some sort of balance, that actually makes HAM important again. I don't think Armour should be nerfed to the point where PvP ends up being 5 shots for death, but I think it should be lowered somewhat so that people can kill each other, other than using DoTs. Or instead of this, perhaps more vulnerabilties would be an option, but they would have to be fair, an Acid, Stun, and say an Energy Vun on the same piece would make it very poor against "today's weapons". A Rifleman could kill you off in a few hits with a Jawa, DXR-6b or a T21, as could many other professions. It would be very hard to achieve a high or at least decent resistance on each piece, so other than using PSGs, it would mean a quick death for alot of people.

How about allowing Master Artisan to place harvesters in difficult terrain (like mountains) ? Perhaps double the footprint of the harvester in these areas, but make it possible. This would be a great benefit, and a fitting Master level benefit for the Survey tree, seeing as survey range is at its max already.

RIS: Make it a medium armor, so that its actually useful instead of just a wall ornament. (I stole your idea Rocky, sry! )

Increase GDK scale drop rate so this armor actually becomes more mainstream and so everyone isnt a composite clone anymore.

PSG's: They are garbage still. They need to be totally reworked.

LS layers: A quest schematic to craft these would be nice, however the quest would have to be very difficult so we dont see everyone having it.

Padded Armor: Make its special protection be energy, and decrease the amount of organics needed to produce it. That way it becomes a viable armor for mainstream use.

New Armor: A third armor type (besides Hunting and Composite) should be availible at Master. It should be different from composite, like perhaps having only lightsaber and(random stat here, just to give an idea) It should defend against stun. This way, people would buy this for PVP, and would buy Comp for PVE. This is another way to reduce the composite clones.

We really need to be crafting faction armor... not just the standard rebel marine and storm trooper armors either, give us the smaller stuff too! Scout armor, Swamp trooper armor... etc (I don't know the name of other rebel style armors so I'm using what examples I know, doesn't mean I'm only speaking for the imperial side)

Also, would really be nice to get an AS crafter bandolier... every other crafting profession in the game got them, including medic!

As for the FS crafting grind... yea... ease that up a bit please...

nothing special the chorus hasnt said. armor is one of the few mostly functional things in the game.

1) Faction Armor, viable, player accepted armor, craftable by faction armorsmiths. Wearable only if overt.

2) Any type of armor to defend against lightsaber. Quest armor that takes months to acquire by only the strongest players, who then have armor to valuable to wear doesnt count.

3) Making armor other than composite viable. Each should have strengths and weaknesses, and people should want to wear something other than composite.

4) Reduce creature requirements in armor (Padded, Wookie) or increase the drop size.. (Getting 10 units from a newb planet per kill really makes ranger's who gather our stuff groan when we ask for it)

Tiggs, no offense, but you could read the stickied posts at the top of the forum from all the other times and ways the corospodent was asked for the armorsmith issues.

But... I'll add my 2 cents anyway.

Issues related to armorsmithing but not in the profession:
1) STORAGE (storage that is reliable), bigger stack sizes or looted components that stack would help greatly in addition to more items per lot. I am pretty sure shipwrights will be singing this song before long.

2) The need for creature organics is high but the way to get them leaves most new smiths out in the cold. To get enough to make a goodly amount of armor you have to pay to high for a new smith to afford to even get the hunters attention because the XP and yield on most animals is... well.. horrid.

  1. Fix PSGs make them work the same way all the time.

  2. Put AAs back in Ubese Shirts and Bandos. They are useless with out AA fine give them 1k condition but let them take AA

  3. Address Factional Armor and not just lets us make storm trooper and scout trooper and and oh yeah something for rebels too. Make viable faction armor for both sides (Rebel Marine armor is not viable its so ugly no one would wear it)
