For the Merchant class the major issue is the loss of Sales space. The cap needs to be addressed, this is a certainty. That aside however there arises an issue with the nature of vendors.
The player base cannot be asked to trust every Merchant to sell their wares... and the merchant can't be expected to purchase items from the crafting classes for resale. There's just too little control over the market, and the merchant recieves no bonus to allow them the cash flow needed to invest in such a move.
That said there must be a system in which Vendors are available to the crafting community as well as to the Merchant community. In thinking this I had a crazy idea.
What if everyplayercould have 1 vendor (of the lowest price cap level)? The only catch was that creating it, customizing it and implementing it, was the role of the Merchant Profession? NOTE: Additional vendors and higher caps would only apply to vendors controlled by the Merchant Profesion
Like a Creature Handler or Droid Engineer a Master Merchant could create a vendor that he could sell to a player. The player, would then need a Merchant to go about training and implementing the vendor which the player could use.
That is to say Joe Business creates a vendor for Willy Weaponsmith. The transaction includes the vendor, applying its wardrobe, registering it on the planetary map, and giving it a greeting string of "Hi welcome to Willy's Weapons!"
Willy now has his one and only vendor and Joe Business just completed a sale.
Beyond that? Keep the current changes ...definitelyincrease the caps a bit within the Merchant professions ... but allow a merchant to give a player a100 item vendor?
The caps are still there... admittedly (hopefully higher though). But the player base has the ability to sell items reliably and the Master Merchant is capable of still doing what they currently can do.
Under this guise the Master Merchant would still control a majority of bulk sales (because they have the most vendors that can carry the most items), but they would also grant the Crafting professions the ability to manage their own small business.
Coding?
Most of the coding exists within the Artisan skill tree for vendor placement (just open it to the player base or put it at Novice Artisan?). Essentially Master Merchant would place the vendor and transfer it to the buyer. Once transfer was complete the buyer would have sole access (as owner's work currently) and all checks would be performed as usual based on the way the current Testing Notes seem to suggest.
Anyway...
Just a crazy thought. Maybe it gets one starred... hopefully it just gets read and sparks some more ideas for dealing with this change.

Someone also suggested placing the vendor option for 1 vendor or vendor bonuses at the Master Crafter level. thought that was an interesting concept as well.

What if the developers were developing a brand spanking new combat vehicle - which is PC pilotable - and furthermore...let us, commandos, decide who would use it and its use...
Naturally, every commando would say "Give commandos the vehicle!" so thats not a concern here...
But what would all of you choose...as the most commando-y type Star Wars vehicle? It can be from the movies...the EU...from the abyss of your own mind (got a few ideas from that place myself)...maybe adaptions from other games as well (such as the Flamer tank from C&C)
So what would it be? My choice is that Assault Tank Idea I had a while back, complete with the Heavy Turbo Laser cannon turret....
<According to some people, our boards are a big yawn....so trying to spice some things up

I would see the tie tank being widely availble since it was a cheap combat vehicle in the cannon.

Just an opinion:
The Tank as driven by the Trade Federation droids in Episode one.
Or.
The Buggy from the start of Star Trek: Nemesis. (that *style* of thing, fast, bouncy, maneauverable, with a heavy machine gun/cannon mounted on back)

Any starwars armor that was feasible would rock for me. AT-ST as a vehicle, any of the ones from any episode would be nice... hell for that matter give the speederbikes a bottom mounted blaster as potrayed in the RotJ (one shot kill on it would suck, but would be funny to kamikaze into flamer range hehe ).
Something Halo'ish as in the buggy or as Brilyn said that buggy from Nemesis would be really cool.

I don’t know, of course I like the AT-AT. I would love and be happy with an AT-ST even if it had a quarter the hit points and reduced weapon damage.
I think what we would probably get some kind of buggy with a weapon as a joke. It would be some high-tech cool looking energy weapon that almost never hits, and one everyone is at least 60% resistant too. It would be an area effect weapon though. The vehicle would take double damage from melee and the weapon would have a 75% chance of hitting its own driver every time it’s used. It would have a very slow rate of fire. Armor would be light but have cool targets painted all over it. It would fit our current state and be named something like the KD/Dizzy wannabe 13 C.
Just kidding but its how I feel sometimes lol

Seriously I think AT-STs’ (and something for the rebels) would be awesome but to be fair it should be where they could only be used in big battlefields and only by overts (to encourage more overts lol). I also don’t see why you can’t fight on speeders in battlefields like they did in the movies it’s based on. As long as both sides have the same advantage and the PVP is consensual what’s the problem? *Thanks about it* (oh yeah, all the Conan wannabes would complain) never mind.

Awesome! I've thought of this as well! A fast two manned assault vehicle would be awesome! You asked for other games..HALO. One man drive, one man shoot. Should not be "too hard", yet I know it would be. But many of the parameters are in to an extent.
Player cities are cool! Vehicles are cool. Mounts...were cool for a month or two. Combat vehicles would rock! May I say that any turrets, mounted guns, spaceship guns, and static placed weapons have a huge bonus for an expert in HEAVY WEAPONS? Yep..Commandos!
So much potential! Combat vehicles SHOULD be in this game. Imagine...if you would...
"Ya wanna drive or man the guns?"
"Oh! I'm a MCommando..."
"Well hell! I'll do my best driving...cover us."
"No worries! Untill we meet more Commandos".
Dreams Dreams!

Thats basically my assault tank idea...a gunner and a driver....and best thing to...each master combat profession has a specific turret they can control on the tank, adding variety as well as a depth of tactics...
And I think we'll be seeing combat vechs after JTL...why? Well there are combat vechs in JTL! hehe...as well as multiplayer vechs....i think they haven't introduced the code yet for multiplayer vehicles as they're waiting for JTL.....
At least i hope so

All-Terrain Personal Transport. Used in the Clone Wars era, it was the "grandfather" of the AT-ST and AT-AT.

Yup, it was a one man AT-ST. was small, you can find it in the Starwar archives.
