Thread: So Long... and thanks for all the fish
- From the beginning, he has been an armorsmith that wasn't about being the top dog or server demi-god, but about caring about the issues that every armorsmith faces. For too many being correspondent is a status thing, and that was NEVER true for Okram.
- He has always had a great deal of knowledge about armorsmithing, but most importantly, he is willing to admit when he isn't the expert on X, Y, or Z. That to me is the key to being a leader, knowing when to seek the advice of others and knowing how to listen without telling others what to think. His receptiveness has made him a great spokesperson for us, because he doesn't come in with a personal agenda, but the agenda of the community.
- He genuinely loves armorsmithing and not because he wants to be rich and famous, but just cause he likes it, period. Running a business, acquiring rare resources, interacting with customers, these are the fun things for him.
- When armorsmithing was added to TC, he was a tireless leader in testing and understanding the new system. He invited everyone to join him and work as a team, to learn about the new system, and reply to the devs. He has always welcomed the participation of everyone, and has never had a personal agenda.
So when it became clear to Okram that the community was very concerned about alot of the changes, he went to bat for us. I can imagine that it is possible that he was overzealous about bringing the message to the devs, but I hope that the devs can forgive him that, after all he is just doing what he felt was best to inform them about our concerns. I don't believe that he had the intention of being hostile or bothersome, and if the devs felt he was being overzealous the right thing to do would have been to inform him that they had heard his concerns and needed time to process them.

You seemed like a guy that actually cared, but being honest your "they aren't listening so we'll mail spam them with the same message" idea was very childish. I'm sure you had the best intentions, but (assuming this is the first time) its a shame they don't give you a second chance.
As long as your message doesnt contain any profane content. There is nothing in the forum ToU that says you cant voice your opinion to the devs. Thats all he tried to do.This will probably be unpopular, but opinions usually are. And anyone is free to scroll it away.
Yes, it is a shame that this happened. But, as a correspondent, the responsibility was to collect all the issues and present them to TH and Tiggs, so they can give the Devs one document that had ALL the armorsmiths issues, instead of wasting time trolling through monds of posts, and possibly missing some very real issues. Not, "rally the troops" to petition and incite a protest. That was unneeded, and not the job given. In fact the "corespondent" position was created to avoid this issue particularly. I think that was the issue here.
Now, the point of being fired, I couldnt make a judgement on. I wasn't there when those three talked after the fact. And maybe the punishment was harsh. No one was there, but those involved, and they aint talking (which is the adult thing to do.)
There ya go. Just remember: it's just a game, not you life. You pay to play in their backyard. You're free to accept it, or dont and go on to things you can control.
Good luck all, gonna be a bumpy ride ahead, depending how people are. Stay strong. Stay focused... and stay civilized!

I like your post, but since when is ceasing to talk the adult thing to do?

If, even though he had to be fired, he helps us get the changes to the CU armorsmithing system that we badly need, he has done us a great service and I hope that everyone joins me in thanking him for everything he has done for us.I think it would be great if the devs would grant him blue glowie status as a sign of respect for what he has done for the armorsmith community. I think that would go a long way to showing that there are no hard feelings and that we all have the same goals (a healthy community and a great game).

Thank you for all your time and effort. I know that your being our coorespondant has helped us out greatly.

Well umm... as you all can see, I'm not blue anymore.
Not gonna make this long or anything, but hope someone else can step up and take my spot, and good luck to whoever it is, you're gonna need it. Armorsmithing in the TC is currently at an unacceptable spot, and don't try to kid yourself other wise. Whoever takes over this crazy place, and I'm sure someone will, needs to keep up the good fight for us.
I love this profession, and I loved the almost seven months that I've been the correspondant here for you guys. It was nice being here while I was.
Well uh... thanks for putting up with me, over looking my many typing and grammer mistakes, and all the great feedback you guys gave me. Take care everyone, I'll be around somewhere.

From what I read he DID do his job and they IGNORED the issues. What was he supposed to do then? Beg for K-Y? I think, at this rate, the devs need to change the poll on the CU so that when you vote "1-poor" a big red box pops up that says;S.T.F.U.

No, you got it all wrong. Its the DEVS who tell us to S.T.F.U. And we tell them, month after month, our credit card number. Where did we go wrong?

I usually support SWG in every way possible, but this is ludicrous...
Why? Why be sheep? I can count the ways they've disrespected the player community, the ways they've mismanaged this project called SWG, the ways they've been manipulative in everything from the way they structure the forums, to the way they manage their update threads, to the way they've miscommunicated at just about every turn for the last two years, and have cited them repeatedly. Why would you support them rather than your constituants who are your fellow players and fellow customers?
Vote them out. Cancel accounts. Ride them out.
