Actually I heard that Webster was such a huge egomaniac he deliberately mispelled (?) words to make them "his". So by dropping a vowel here and there you are not speaking english anymore you are speaking Websterian!

By the way, there was one other thing I wanted to add. Spelling nazis were lame before but now that my spell checker doesn't work I wash my hands of any errors made.
